We’ve been looking on and off for a SUV (RAV4 or RDX) for - JPAPETTI
We’ve been looking on and off for a SUV (RAV4 or RDX) for about a year. On Thursday I got on auto trader and the first car that popped up was an RDX (just listed) at Capital Ford. We contacted on line and Edgar and I set up an appointment for Friday morning. We drove up from Gilroy on Friday and met up with Edgar at 10:45. He was very pleasant, knowledgeably, and made us feel right at home. We drove car, it met our musts and wants, and we made An offer which was accepted all within about an hour (~11:45). I offered to go get a check at my credit union but was told to hold off since we were in line to finalize deal required documentation. Car also needed to be detailed. So we hung out through lunch and waited till around 1:30 and we were introduced to Wally. This is when things went sideways. Immediately he brought up the fact that car had lots of miles and wanted to know about all other vehicles. Bottom line he wanted us to buy a maintenance contract which we declined. We started signing and he kept incessantly bringing this up and insulting our intelligence. He also left our prison cell a couple of times for God knows what to further prolong the agony. Finally I was given a parole to go get the check at my credit union. I got check and Edgar gave it to the appropriate personnel and deal was sealed. Signed papers are to be delivered via email (as of Saturday morning no papers). Our car had completed the detailing and was ready to go to its new home. Time is around 2:45, total elapsed time 4 hours. In summary Edgar gets A+, detailing A, Wally gets a D. Wally gets a B for documentation meaning and explanation (somewhat rushed), F for not knowing when to move on when you say NO. I realize that’s his job to try and sell this maintenance policy but we felt belittled and our intelligence insulted. Advise toning it down some.
