Last Sunday, while trailering from the mountains of North Carolina to Charlotte from my motorcycle trip, I heard a loud squeaking sound coming from the back passenger side of my Lexus GX 460. Upon arriving at my brother’s house, I discovered that the rear passenger side rotor was completely destroyed, causing metal-on-metal contact with my brake pads. With a trip back home to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the following morning, and a flight out on business on Tuesday morning, I was understandably stressed about getting this issue resolved before leaving on Monday morning. Unfortunately, all the auto parts stores were closed on Sunday when I returned to Charlotte, leaving me unable to fix the problem myself. Despite the urgency, I decided to take a chance and leave early Monday morning, aiming to arrive at the Hendrick Lexus dealership in Northlake by 7:15 AM, as their service department opens at 7:30 AM. As I stood by the service bay door, a young service technician approached me at 7:20 AM and asked if I needed any assistance. I politely requested to speak to the service manager. Preparing to explain my situation, I informed the service manager that I had a business trip on Tuesday and was driving (trailering) back to Pennsylvania that morning and that in my vehicle’s current condition it made it unsafe for me to drive. I inquired if there was any possibility of them inspecting my SUV and expediting the repair process that day. To my surprise, the service manager responded positively, stating that they prioritized ensuring my safe return home. He directed me to pull my car to the front bay, and within 15 minutes, my SUV was in service. An hour later, I received a text message from the technician with a narrated video showing me all the little issues with my vehicle, including the major rear brake issue. I’ve purchased many vehicles over the years, including high-end cars like Porsche 911s, Mercedes-Benzes, and even a Maserati that I own today. All these vehicles were purchased from “high-end dealerships” in Pittsburgh, but none of them could compare to the service I received from this team at Hendrick. My service advisor then provided me with a detailed breakdown of the estimate for the rear brakes and other minor repairs I needed to address in the future. The estimate for the rear brakes on both sides of the rear was approximately $1100, which I gladly accepted since I had no other options. They could have easily taken advantage of me and charged me twice or even three times that amount. However, when I received my bill, it was $823, which included a $94 hoodie that I had purchased from the dealership. The repair took about 45 minutes. They thoroughly washed and vacuumed the interior, and I was on my way back to Pittsburgh. As a token of my appreciation, I made a promise to the Hendrick team in North Carolina that when I purchase my next Lexus within the next nine months, I will not buy it from Pennsylvania. Instead, I will exclusively purchase from Hendrick and this team. This dealership truly stands out as a first-class establishment with exceptional employees! I like to say a special thanks to my Service advisor Rebecca Bigelow for her outstanding help and making this process so easy and stress free for me and to their Service Manager, David Shepherd for seeing how stressed out I was about this and understanding the urgency of me getting back home…. as well with for his amazing insight on hiring really good people!
