Second Carvana Purchase - First Experience was much Better! 1) Agreed to purchase a 2014 Corvette on Thursday February 20th. I was traveling for work and was in mid-Ohio that week heading home to Chicago on Fri 1) Agreed to purchase a 2014 Corvette on Thursday February 20th. I was traveling for work and was in mid-Ohio that week heading home to Chicago on Friday. Order was officially placed on Friday Feb 21st. a) I decided to trade the 2018 Mazda Miata I bought from Carvana 5 months ago in September of 2019. I accepted Carvana’s offer. Carvana required I take a picture of the odometer, come on, really? I had to drive to where the car was at my property in Wisconsin. b) Anyway, I drove to Wisconsin that weekend took the picture and the deal was approved on with confirmation on Monday February 24th. 2) As I considered where the vehicle will be most of the time I asked if I could switch the registration and tax state to Wisconsin as I have property there. a) I was told that would be fine and we would leave the contract as is and change after delivery or someone else might buy the car while they re-did the paperwork. Ridiculous, but I agreed. Cook county Illinois would be 8.25% on the price of the vehicle minus a trade in credit of $10,000 vs the full trade in value as a new law in Illinois had been passed reducing the trade in credit for sales tax to a $10,000 maximum. Wisconsin’s rate in Kenosha is 5.5% and they give full trade in value credit for the sales tax calculation. 3) As I was traveling that week as well and wanted to make sure Carvana had plenty of time to get the car to Chicago we scheduled deliver for Tuesday morning March 3rd. a) On the afternoon of Monday March 2nd I get a call that the car had not left New jersey yet and would not make the Tuesday delivery. First real point of frustration. We rescheduled for Thursday March 5th. 4) On Wednesday evening March 4th I received a message that the car made it to Chicago, but had an electrical issue and was at a repair shop. Another delay, and the car would not deliver on Thursday. The good news is they put a new battery and alternator in the vehicle and the car was delivered on Friday. a) The vehicle was clean and the gentlemen who delivered it were great. 5) I then find out Carvana does not want to fix the tax issue. They suggested it be registered in Wisconsin, but pay the tax to Illinois. Again, ridiculous. You pay sales tax to the state where it is registered and will reside. They said, but you took delivery in Illinois. I reminded them that many people buy a car in one state, take delivery, and then take the car to their home state to register and this was no different. They eventually agreed on Tuesday March 10th to rewrite the deal. It is now Wednesday March 18th and no progress has been made. Additional frustration is they agreed to this and then changed their mind. a) I should also note that my trade in which they took possession of on March 6th has still not been paid off so I am paying interest on two loans. 6) Bottom line, Carvana has not worked through the challenges of the car buying process. The cars I purchased have been great, but next time I cannot see going through all of this again and will just buy from a brick and mortar dealer. One challenge is you cannot communicate by email and every time you call and have an issue you have to start from the beginning and educate the current person who happened to answer the phone. This I believe is their greatest weakness. I am a car guy and buy and sell more frequent than most having purchased about forty-five cars in my life, and had been enthused about the Carvana way initially. More

My experience was awesome. I love being able to decide my own terms with financing.The whole process was very simple and thorough.The communication was open and clear and most of all no hassle! My car was delivered by this amazing rep named Luke Holmes. He called with an ETA to let me know how far out he was and was right on time. Smooth unload and in the driveway. He even waited at my home while I went for a test drive. He was very patient and answered all my questions. He explained all my details to me thoroughly and completely. We had very stress free experience with Carvana, avoiding all the the things we don’t like about traditional dealerships. The car came clean, and any imperfection was stuff we had already seen before selecti all the the things we don’t like about traditional dealerships. The car came clean, and any imperfection was stuff we had already seen before selecting it online. The ONLY negative is that one of our keys came with a dead battery so we will have to replace that. Would definitely use again for our next car purchase though! More
