Horrible experience buying a new car. - LaurieC
Horrible experience buying a new car. Ordered an XC40 from Ricari and on the day I ordered we agreed on the price (MSRP) and I received paperwork reflecting agreed price. I waited 3 months as expected for the car to be delivered to dealer. When the car arrived I went to Boston Volvo to pick it up and pay what we had agreed. Ricari suddenly told me the price had gone up by $1,000 because 'that is what the manufacturer is charging us extra.' (I had spoken to him many times before picking up the car and he never mentioned an increase in price.) I refused to pay the extra amount and so they kept me waiting for almost 2 hours while Ricari, Michael in Finance and Gary the GM tried to 'sort things out'. When I finally got the car, I reviewed the Monroney sticker (by law the dealer must give this to you when you buy a new car as it reflects information including the MSRP from the manufacturer) in the glove compartment and it confirmed that they were not charged more by the manufacturer. Bait & switch. I will go out of my way to have my car serviced at another dealership.
An aside, if the dealer tries to upsell you the bronze, silver and gold protection, go to AAA and get the same coverage for 50% less.
