My XC90 experienced, chronic total console and control failure affecting the safety of the vehicle, this included, but wise not limited to the defros My XC90 experienced, chronic total console and control failure affecting the safety of the vehicle, this included, but wise not limited to the defroster and other crucial operational controls at three years of age with under 40,000 miles. Subsequently, the vehicle failed inspection due to a software update recall that was the root cause of this issue. I had brought it in several times prior to the recall stating that the entire electronic panel would go out, not allowing me to adjust heat, defrost or air conditioning and or see any of the functions in the car. (Safety issue!) After bringing the vehicle in several times, the attendant wanted me to pay $200 for a software update that he could not guarantee would work. He wanted me to pay for it, but the vehicle is under warranty. The dealership struggled and attempted a software update a few times necessitating-unplugging my battery. They then told me that I needed to drive the car at least 100 miles in order for the inspection sticker to clear. The car dealership wanted me to drive it and then bring it back, which do not resolve the issue. After a manufacturers defect, resulting in a company wide recall, the attendant, decided to tell me that my car then wasn’t passing inspection because it needed all new tires. This was not the original reason of my car failing inspection. (nor was it originally an issue )The attendant tried to quote me over $1200 for tires in order to get my car inspected and then attemptedto charge for a reinspection of my car. The service advisor was definitely trying to make a big sale for sure. I felt very swindled. The premise for all these issues were based on one thing a manufacturer is defect, causing an unsafe condition and utilizing the vehicle. It also didn’t help that I receive lip service from the attendant at the dealership as they told me that the issue was time sensitive. However, the attendant didn’t know I was aware that the software was pushed out in the middle of the month. This is something we had to wait for, rendering the vehicle useless/unsafe until then. Buyer beware! This is a manufacturers defect that the dealership could’ve done a much better job on handling and responding to when handling customer affairs. Hopefully it was a learning experience for them, but I’m sure I’m not the only individual haggling with these people. The vehicle is now being brought to a third-party dealership to have a inspection as well as official documentation on the status of the tires and the rest of the vehicle.
