We had bought a CPO 2023 MAZDA CX-30 Premium Turbo for - RF
We had bought a CPO 2023 MAZDA CX-30 Premium Turbo for our son about 10 months ago and it was a smooth, though LONG process. We liked Gtiae, our salesman. When it was time to buy our daughter a car, we identified one at the same dealership and called Gitae, who told us the car was available. However, when we arrived(40 mi drive), we were told that the car was no longer available, as it had been sold!! However, there was another one available but it was a 2022 model with the same Premium Trim but not Turbo. This was fine. For some reason it was more expensive than the newer model with Turbo that e we had purchased for our son earlier! We finally settled on a price after the usual back-and-forth.
Then we were taken to the office of the finance person, who seemed nice enough but for some reason he locked the door behind me, which seemed a bit odd.
Then he tried to sell me various “protection” packages and “service” packages, Nunez me that he was willing to do me a favor by giving me these packages at steeply discounted rates( because I was such a good Dad!), despite me telling him at the outset that I was NOT interested and just wanted to fill out the paperwork and pay for the car, so we could leave. He finally relented and did the paper work. He asked if I would like to pay by “CHECK OR ACH”. I opted for check, since I had brought my check book with me I wrote it out and handed it to him. This whole process had tarn a LONG time and my wife was knocking on the door. He went and unlocked it and let her in (again odd!). When he handed us the paperwork, she picked up on the fact that not only had he taken my check, he had ALSO put in for an ACH Transfer from my bank!! This seemed really shady because I had NOT authorized that and had SPECIFICALLY stated that I would pay by check and NOT ACH, but he took payment by BOTH METHODS. When he was questioned about this, he became somewhat cagey and defensive, telling us that it was a precaution in case the check didn’t clear and once the ACH went through, WE could call the bank and tell them to cancel the check! Huh?? Why would I know to do that when I wouldn’t even have KNOWN that the ACH had been initiated and in my mind, I had only paid by check. I got annoyed at this and asked that the check be returned, since he had already put in for the ACH Transfer(without my permission!). Again, he tried to avoid this and I finally called for the manager, asking him why they needed a check when an ACH Transfer had already been put in. The manager looked and sounded surprised and said it was not needed at all, instructing the finance guy to return the check, which he finally and reluctantly did, with an attitude of defensive irritation (brusquely handing it to me and saying “HERE!”).
Then we found out that the car was not yet ready to be taken off the lot, since it had just arrived and hadn’t gone through with the CPO Inspection and they didn’t even have the Title to the car to transfer its ownership to me. None of this has been mentioned before out we might have left.
So while my first experience with them was good and led me to come back to them for the second car, this recent experience left much to be desired and left us with a bad taste in the mouth for 3 reasons:
1- Bait and Switch with the initial car availability
2-Shady transaction process with the Finance person
3- Car not being available to drive off with and no Title transfer documents.
