Iven was very conscientious and followed up always with me. I was able to turn in my leased 2010 Odyssey with a new 2012 with added options, etc. and did so w/o any down payment, etc. and got the same pay me. Over a span of 10 days I had physically gone to both Honda competitors on Oahu and to Toyota while communicating with the Tony Honda Internet team of Mike and Iven via e-mail. Although the first encounter with the Tony Honda team was just fair, subsequent interactions were way "Beyond the Call". To preclude an unnecessary trip to Tony Honda in Mililani, based on previous misunderstandings with dealers other than, Tony Honda, one Saturday night I texted Mike Demello to call me at 9 pm, to confirm the e-mail offer forwarded to me earlier in the day. Much to my surprise Mike personally called me back on a Saturday night to confirm the offer. I then drove to Tony Honda first thing Sunday morning and signed the contract that Sunday afternoon. Iven delivered my new car to me in Nuuanu on Wednesday!!! Although I visted Tony Honda last it is in the customer's best interest to communicate with Tony Honda before signing a contract with another dealer. Based on my results you will probably be pleasantly. I am an advocate of Tony Honda in general and I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY ANOTHER CAR FROM THIS INTERNET TEAM. Very deceptive when it comes to pricing. They did not disclose details of the lease agreement and especially stayed away from questions about how much total price of vechicle was. They concentrated solely on negotiating the monthly lease payment. Once that was agreeable to me, they quickly drew up lease agreement and essentially said "sign here". They do not give you time to read the agreement and after being there for 3 hours, I wanted out as well. All they want is for you to take the car home that night. When I got home, I read the fine print of the lease agreement. To my surprise, lease agreement was based on almost the full sticker price of the car. This was the first time I ever saw the price which also included almost a $4,000 additional dealer mark-up (20% of MSRP) and $900 of some type of lease/rental fee! None of this was ever disclosed to me. During negotiations, salesperson said they recognized that I was a loyal customer since this was my 4th vehicle that I purchased from Tony Honda and I regularly service my cars there. They said they considered that in their offer to me and yet, they base the lease on the highest price they can get. So much for being honest with your best customer. UNREAL... Next day, I received an email from customer service rep asking about my satisfaction with sale. I replied with my disappointment with how sale was handled; that is, no full disclosure of price. It's been five days and I've yet to get a reply. Needless to say, this is the last time I will buy a car from this dealership. I will turn in this car after lease is up because I really don't want to do business with them anymore. My advice to folks doing business with Tony Honda, negotiate price, ask them for copy of their worksheet and then tell them you'll look it over and return the next day. Don't sign any sales or lease agreement without looking over the details. Otherwise, you'll get trapped like me and find that the actual contract/agreement contains numbers that you never was told about. More
My 12 year old Sentra was finally showing its age, so I had to get a new car. I am a Nissan guy, but their current offerings in the compact segment are mediocre at best. I decided to get a Honda Civic because of the reliability that Honda is known for, as well as the great "real world" fuel economy (don't rely on EPA estimates on window stickers, check out fuelly.com or similar instead). I contacted the three local dealers to see what kind of deal I could get, or if it was realistically possible to even get an EX model, or did I have to just settle for an LX. The one dealer that has a reputation for great customer service didn't even reply to my initial email. Scratch them off the list. The other dealer offered me a decent base price by email, but when I asked for a breakdown of the fees and my actual final price, he stopped corresponding with me. That made me think that he might have been leading me on. I laid out the offer to Iven Cunanan and asked him if he could do better, but if he couldn't I would understand. He promptly replied that he would beat the other dealer's offer and then some! I was elated and as soon as my wife was free to come select the car with me, we went down to the Autoplex. Unfortunately, it was early evening and Iven had left for the day already. Mike Demello introduced himself and said that he was there to help us and that he would uphold any deal that Iven had offered us earlier. We took a test drive and were satisfied with the car's ride. It was getting near closing time, but Mike remained patient as we tried to make a decision on color and body style. After we finally decided on the vehicle we wanted, the paperwork process went very smoothly and quickly. I was surprised that the price I paid was much lower than what I expected to pay in Hawaii, even through my extensive online research. They explained every document that was handed to me and not once did I feel that they were doing anything "fishy". Curtis Matsumoto, the FI guy was equally pleasant. He took the time to explain everything and while he did try to sell us some additional services (just doing his job), he was not pushy at all about it. One of the reasons I put off buying a new car was that I normally HATE the car buying process due to the high pressure tactics of some salespeople and dealerships, but that was not the case here at Tony Honda and the great employees they have in Iven, Mike, and Curtis (I had a similarly positive experience at Tony Hyundai last year too). I really received a bad custmer service at this dealership. At first, Chelsey was very nice and seemed like she wanted to really help me purchse the new car. However, her attitude changed at soon as I started asking questions regarding the price and the mark-up of the vehicle. Her answers to me were "well this is the best we can do, take it or leave it or go somewhere else" I could not believe what I was hearing!! She seemed very aggravated with me and my questions. At one time, she just left the office while I was asking her questions.... so her manager came in to apologize and said "I'm sorry, she is just getting aggravated". The reason she was getting aggravated with me is becuase they were trying to scam a horrible deal on me. And when I asked why is the amount so high and where does my $ go to, etc.... I was not getting any answers back. Anyways, I left the dealership and went to Honda Windward and received an outstanding costumer service and great price for the car. I will never ever go to Tony Honda to purchase a car. My experience was horrible with them and Chelsey. More
