The experience I had at McKenna Volkswagen, after several pushy and unpleasant dealership experiences at other places, was very pleasant indeed. Everyone I spoke with was genuinely friendly, especially Dean pushy and unpleasant dealership experiences at other places, was very pleasant indeed. Everyone I spoke with was genuinely friendly, especially Dean Kidder. I was changing my mind about the original car I came to look at, so they offered to show me a different, less-expensive car. Very enthusiastic about everything, never felt like the salespeople were trying to get one over on me. I finally decided on the second car. An issue arose regarding maintenance of the vehicle, and they offered to provide me with a loaner car (A very nice Volkswagen Jetta) until the issue was resolved, which they were NOT obligated to do. Very satisfied with my experience at this dealership. I would definitely recommend people go here. More

I called to find out t Shady Dealership I received an email from McKenna Volkswagen Huntington Beach offering financing and $9000 off select models. I called to find out the exact models with the $9000 discount and was told the Passat CC. Finding that hard to believe, I asked for specific VIN Numbers and was told that I would be called back with the information after the salesman talked to the general manager. After 10 minutes, I was called back with 3 specific VIN numbers. I made an appt, drove to the lot, again stated I was interested in only seeing the 3 cars with $9000 off, and was taken to one of the cars. I asked to see the other 2 but was told they were all the same options, only different exterior color. I drove the car, discussed the $9000 discount, and returned to the dealer. After getting out of the car, I again stated the price with the $9000 discount. The salesman said he had to talk to his general manager. Inside, the general manager discussed only a lease option and refused to discuss a purchase option. I told him that I wanted the offer discussed with the salesman and he said that the discount did not apply to the Passat. I told him the prior series of events and he said that nobody at his site would have offered that deal and that I was lying. He also told me that I was dumb for believing the $9000 would be applied to the Passat. He ranted for several minutes until I told him his salesman who was in the room was the one who discussed the deal. The salesman confirmed that what I was saying was true. At that point, I left the dealership as it was clear that McKenna has unethical business practices and was trying a classic bait & switch technique. I also felt that calling me a liar and stupid was not the characteristics of a dealer who respected their customers. Do NOT buy at McKenna. More

Do not go here, I just wished I'd read the reviews before I made the 90 minute trip up to McKenna Volkswagon. I was disgusted by the way we were treated it was completely unethical and poor business practice I made the 90 minute trip up to McKenna Volkswagon. I was disgusted by the way we were treated it was completely unethical and poor business practice. Here is what happened; We had been emailing back and forth a sales person (who was actually very nice) for 3 days and were told that they could get us the car we were looking for at the Trucar.com price that they guaranteed (got to trucar.com to see what I mean), we were told this information over the phone and in email. We drive the hour and a half (we are in San Diego) to the dealership, fill out paperwork for 30 minutes with our sales guy and then meet the finance manager Paulo, or as I like to put it the most unethical, slimy, condescending car dealer in the world. Paulo proceeds to tell us a story that there was a miscommunication and they could not get us the car they had promised us at the price they had guaranteed (the reason we drove up there in the first place) but could offer us the newer model of the car for a couple of grand more, ummm no. I was shocked that car dealers think they can still pull this s(swear word here). So here is the run down of the McKenna Volkswagen Technique: 1.) Lie to the person to get them to invest the time to come to the dealership. 2.) Waste their time some more with paperwork and chit-chat for an hour. 3.) Now that the customer has invested all this time with you...this is when you try to sell them a car for $5,000 more. So do not go here unless you want a load of lies and slimy bargaining techniques thrown at you. More
I came in to have a new battery placed in my remote key. I came to the dealership expressly because I believed, mistakenly, that they would know how to open the remote case and install the new battery. The I came to the dealership expressly because I believed, mistakenly, that they would know how to open the remote case and install the new battery. The parts man broke my remote case, so it would not remain closed, glued it in order to keep together and had the audacity to tell me he "didn't break it, it just broke" while I stood at the counter and watched him break it! I asked him what kind of a discount he planned to give me for breaking the case and he said, "none, it just broke. I didn't break it!" The $6.47 tag for the battery didn't kill me, but the attitude and ineptitude of the employee really got my temper flaring. On the way out the door I told a person in the service department that they needed to instruct the parts person in how to install a battery without breaking the case. New remote keys cost about $250. and I expect when I need a new battery again the case will have to be broken to install it! More
Purchased a 2008 Jetta from Mckenna HB, came with brand new tires and in great shape. 6 Months later I went in for a recall on the vehicle and they told me I needed new tires due to chopping and an alignme new tires and in great shape. 6 Months later I went in for a recall on the vehicle and they told me I needed new tires due to chopping and an alignment for $900. I spoke to the sales manager khemo about this because the car wasn't even 6 months old. When i spoke to him, he told me he wanted to change my attitude with Mckenna because I had a bad experience in the purchasing process. He said he was brought in because of his customer service skills and turning around the reputation of the dealership. The tech was extremely nice and took my car for a drive and he said that the alignment was fine and the tires just need to get back to normal wear. I said to the tech, "just because a car drives straight doesnt mean that its aligned correctly" and he told me it does. Any experienced tech would know that a car driving straight doesnt mean its aligned correctly. We spoke to Khemo and he tried to say he "doesnt know the driving conditions" and that the "tire pressure is incorrect". The tire pressure wasn't even checked by the technician and we live in Southern California, the driving conditions are perfectly normal and dont change. Even if I had hit something to throw the aligment off, there would have been a bent tierod or messed up balljoint proving it was my fault. Khemo didnt like that I knew about cars and started arguing that the tech had checked the tire pressure. I was with the tech the entire time and he did not check it once. Khemo argued with me over this and said "how do you know he didnt check the tire pressure", when I had clearly stated I was with the tech from the time he came out of the garage till the time he went back to the garage. He then spoke to my girlfriend(the owner) and told her that he only wanted her to go to the dealer, not me because I know a lot about cars. He actually requested me to not go in so I couldnt argue factual information with him. This is unacceptable. He then still refused to provide an alignment for the vehicle and said that its perfectly fine. My girlfriend then took the car to sears where they checked the alignment FOR FREE, which Khemo would not do, and sure enough, the alignment was incorrect. I ended up paying sears to do this alignment because I dont want to deal with Mckenna. Khemo started out nice and turned into one of the rudest sales manager's I've ever seen. Who requests that a persons boyfriend doesnt go in because he has a degree in automotive technology? What manager tries to tell a customer he's lying. Something needs to be evaluated about this manager and they need to pay attention to who is in charge here. I will never recommend a person goes to this dealer. They are a horrible representation of VW and as a VW lover, they give them a horrible name. VW of America has been contacted regarding this dealership. never go here. More
I went to this dealership to buy a car this past week. I really liked one car they had and they did the schibang of trying to get me to sign RIGHT then (which is expected) - I thought they were definitely o really liked one car they had and they did the schibang of trying to get me to sign RIGHT then (which is expected) - I thought they were definitely on the more pushy side. The car was selling for $25,990 - and they offered me a payment amount after everything of $385. I decide to sleep on it - well when i went home the car was listed ONLINE (on their website) for $22,991. When I called back to ask about it they gave me some lame excuse, then said okay i guess with this news we can go down to $360. I was like - so you told me $385 was the LOWEST you could go and then I have it at $360?? Honestly I was so annoyed at this point that I said no thanks - and they have called me everyday for the last 4 days about this car. They obviously cannot be trusted, and to me it wasn't really the price but it was the fact that I wonder what else they are hiding from me. So I went down to another VW dealership (of Garden Groove) - who were outstanding!!! Needless to say - I will NEVER visit this dealership again. More
last week we bought a used volkswagon from McKenna. Happy with the car, but the service was terrible. We paid full asking price (maybe we are the suckers), but then thinking with full price, maybe the Happy with the car, but the service was terrible. We paid full asking price (maybe we are the suckers), but then thinking with full price, maybe the service would be great... definitely not. Did we ever feel nickel and dime-ed. They were unwilling to throw in window tinting (even give a discount on it), when we went for the final test drive we noticed a head light was burned out. It was about 8pm so the service dept was closed - no one there could change the bulb and they wanted us to come back tomorrow to pick it up (we are a 250 mile round trip away)... we did NOT want to come back for a headlight. The sales guy was looking into seeing if they could drive the car out to us - no, they could not. Finally my husband took at look and changed the bulb in about 90 seconds. The car was on fumes for gas, and we asked about a fill up (especially with all the hassles), sales guy said he look into it - got into the car and still on fumes - gas light on. Then about 15 mins into the drive home I noticed no floor mats. When we stopped for gas I looked in the trunk to see if the floor mats were there - nope, no floor mats anymore. Surprisingly the spare tire was still there. The following day we called (and got voice mail) to ask if perhaps the floor mats were removed during cleaning and not put back... no one has yet returned our call. Great car, terrible sales experience. Glad we will not have to go to McKenna for servicing! Hope you are able to find a great car somewhere else, where you can also get great service. More
We were happy with the 2 new cars we purchased on the same day a couple of weeks ago. Very happy until I realized they lied to us. I am also disappointed with myself for believing them but they were so n same day a couple of weeks ago. Very happy until I realized they lied to us. I am also disappointed with myself for believing them but they were so nice. When we were signing the paperwork, I was told that the first payment due 30 days in the future could be changed as soon as we received our first bill from VW Credit. When trying to make the deal, they kept saying you can make a down payment because you get to "skip a payment" as you get 45 days before the first payment is due. When I called VW Credit to change my payment date, they said it could only be done after the first payment was made. Being a perfect customer with our last cars for 5 years made no difference to VW Credit. This makes 2 car payments due the same day as the rent. The "skipped" car payment for October has been used for other bills and we are now in trouble. McKenna's response "oops, we didn't know that". More
I have always been impressed with the Surf City VW dealership (bought 2 cars from them), but over the last few weeks I have been frustrated. There is no way of getting through to the service desk or dealership (bought 2 cars from them), but over the last few weeks I have been frustrated. There is no way of getting through to the service desk or scheduling a service appointment. 5-6 attempts and my call was dropped, no one called me back when I left a message, no response from my internet request for an appt, and then no one picked up the phone after 2 min of ringing. Disappointing. I am thinking of finding another dealership even if I have to drive a distance. Please improve your service Surf City, you will lose a lot of good customers if you don't. More
