I visited this dealership to have service done to my 2005 Volkwagen Jetta. My Service Advisor, Chris, was very professional and friendly during my service repair. Additionally, my technician Mikey showed me what repairs were needed so that I understood what repairs were taking place. I also want to mention that all the other associates (who I left unnamed... sorry, you know who you were) were also very friendly and willing to assist me during this repair. This dealership has been my automotive facility for the last five years and I look forward to another five years!! I highly recommend it to anyone who expects the best service, professionalism, and efficiency when they want to purchase a car or service repairs!! More
(This is in addition to the negative review I posted about this dealership on this site on 3/12/2010, which dealt with the bad experience we had when we purchased our used VW Passat here.) During the third week of April, 2011, the sending unit for the gas gauge went out. When I went to my local dealer (Autobarn City VW in Chicago - they're *fantastic*, by the way!) for service, I was informed that the 'Pre-Loved' extended warranty on the car couldn't be found on the computer. I checked with VW USA, and they informed me of the same thing. Apparently, the necessary computer skills that are required to enter the warranty info for this car are beyond anyone at Gurnee VW. I called them, and was informed that the woman that deals with warranties was gone for the day, and would be back at 9:00 the next morning. When I arrived there (at approximately 9:30) the next morning, I was then informed that the woman had NO SET HOURS and that NOBODY KNEW WHEN (OR EVEN IF) SHE WOULD ARRIVE THAT DAY! (Nice hours, huh? Where can I go to get a job like that, other that at this car dealership, of course?) Anyway, this is what I was told at the Hundai dealership, which is where this woman's office is. (This is a Hundai / VW dealership with two separate, side-by-side buildings - one for each make of car.) When I went to the VW side, I talked to a gentleman whose card identified him as the 'Used Car Manager'. He copied the paperwork that I had brought, and he assured me that he would contact the 'Extended Warranty Lady' when (if?) she came in, that she *would* get the purchase / warranty info entered onto their computer and get it activated for me, and that she *would* be in contact with me. All of that activity took place, as I said, at around 9:30 a.m. At 1:30 p.m., I received a call from a gentleman by the name of Joe David, who told me that, because I moaned and groaned about this situation to VW USA, VW USA called Gurnee VW and screamed at them, and so the extended warranty was entered into the computer last night (Yeah, right!), and I can proceed with the service that I need in Chicago as long as I wait 24 - 48 hours for the computer to update all of its files with the new warranty information on the car. (Whew! Long sentence.) Also, if I fax him a copy of the receipt (which I had already given to the 'Used Car Manager'!) for the $80 sending unit that I already paid for (this needed to be paid before the part could be ordered), he'd send me a check for it. Which is all well and good, except that IF THEY'D BEEN DOING THEIR JOBS RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, THIS SITUATION WOULD NEVER HAVE ARISEN! (Sorry for shouting.) So, I faxed the receipt to Mr. David as he requested. When I didn't receive the check within ten days, I tried calling him. I called and left messages with the receptionist for three days in a row, stating that I was following up on the check that I was supposed to receive. Only on the third day did Mr. David finally decide to return my call. He informed me that when he received my message that morning, he checked his outgoing mail and found the check there, still waiting to be sent, ten days after I faxed the receipt!!! (Yet another example of Gurnee VW's commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction.) Giving credit where it's due, I must say that when the reimbursement check finally showed up (two weeks after I began to deal with a situation that should never have arisen in the first place) the check *was* for the correct amount - at least the dealership was able to get that right. I honestly don't understand how this dealership continues to stay in business when they deliver this poor level of customer service. And it's not as though I only had a single issue with them - EVERY SINGLE TIME that I've dealt with this dealership, there's been a problem / issue of some type. If I receive this consistently bad service, I'm sure other people do, too. My advice would be that if you patronize this dealership, make sure that EVERYTHING that ANYONE at this dealership tells you is in writing over their signature (along with their name and job title), and don't assume for ONE SECOND that you're getting everything that you've been promised - double-check everything about the transaction. Of course, the best thing would be to just go somewhere else and save yourself the hassle and aggravation of dealing with these people. I e-mailed a copy of this review to Mr. David, telling him that I intended to post it on this site. I told him that if he had any response or rebuttal to what I'm saying, he should e-mail me back and that I'd include his response here. Since everything that I've said here is true and accurate, I'm not surprised that I never heard back from him. Is it possible that he doesn't care about how the company that he works for treats its customers? More
I give this dealership an outstanding rating and especially Joseph because I purchased a new VW from them today and my experience was nothing short of spectacular. Great price, great car but the difference was the professionalism of the entire staff. It began on Sunday, my wife and I were looking at cars in the lot after doing my research on the internet. Joseph was just driving by, saw us, introduced himself and gave me a business card. No pressure but enough for me to call him the next day to make an appointment to come in and see and drive the car. The negotiation at the dealership was straight forward and the price we agreed on was very fair. I dealt with Joseph as well as a female sales manager (sorry, I forget her name) and this experience was great also. During the sales process I was congratulated by the general manager and met the appropriate service staff. I have purchased many cars over the last 30 or so years (this is my 33rd car, not kidding) and I seldom leave a dealership feeling the entire experience was so positive. I would strongly recommend this dealership for anyone looking for a VW. More
I had a great experience with VW Gurnee. I was given a very fair trade-in, and a very fair price on my new vehicle. The sales staff jumped through hoops to get me the vehicle that was right for me. What surprised me the most was the way I was treated. There was no pressure put on me to buy; every piece of information that I received from them matched my at-home research. Most importantly, I felt that they did not want to rip me off. This is the first time in my life that I made a large purchase and woke up the next day without buyers remorse. A few years from now when I decide to buy again, I know the 45 mile trip for me to VW Gurnee will be well worth it. More

I wanted to sleep on my decision in whether or not I was going to purchase the car so they held the car for me for another day, and with it being a used car they could have easily said no. My car was detailed well and the Manager Justin Palermo gave me a full tank of gas. I was even given my very own person escort home because I had not goten my license until later that day. I am familiar with Gurnee V because my father purchased his 2010 GTI VW from there and he couldn't be happier with his decision in going through that dealership. Overall, the dealers and Gurnee Volkswagon were very friendly, made me feel comfortable,and sold me a car that had the most bang for my buck. I would most definitely recommend friends and family to go to Gurnee Volkswagen on their next vehicle purchase(s). Thanks guys! More
Found a 2007 Tahoe LTZ online the day it was published - Went the next day and purchased the vehicle at the price and terms that I wanted. I called in the morning and made an appointment to see the Tahoe at 2:00 - It was clean and ready inside the Dealership. Took for a test ride and realized it was the exact SUV that I was shopping for! Went inside, wrote down the dollars I wanted for TradeIn and exact out the door price with monthly payment that I wanted - Gurnee Volkswagen sold me the Tahoe for what I offered - Everyone was happy! Always looking for something a bit different from the last- they were able to find me the perfect car. Sean, our sales guy, came in on his day off to do the ppwk & to see everything was perfect. I was given a great price on my not so great trade in and drove home very, very happy. I would recommend Gurnee VW to anyone looking for great service & a nice ride at a great price. I feel truely blessed - I got a much nicer car than I ever expected. More

This dealership broke parts on my car when they were supposed to be doing free recalls on my car. They then proceeded to tell me that they would not fix it and there was nothing to do. The "amazing" service manager John actually told me to stop talking, sit down, and if I talked again he would kick me out. I have been a loyal customer to Gurnee VW for years and own multiple volkswagens. After the way John and Joe treated me I will never go back there again. In fact, two people I've told have already cancelled their appointments to get work done on their cars there. It is too bad that a business will treat their customers like complete dirt after THEY broke the part on MY car. STAY AWAY! More
