I just traveled 120 miles and 2.5 hrs away to successfully purchase a new 2013 Subaru WRX STi, after I was unable to buy from Gearld Subaru. My Gearld salesman (Mason Lies) was extremely friendly successfully purchase a new 2013 Subaru WRX STi, after I was unable to buy from Gearld Subaru. My Gearld salesman (Mason Lies) was extremely friendly, knowledgable, and helpful through the process of Q&A, test drive, discussion of available options, and pricing. However, upon returning to sign the papers, he met with his Sales Mgr and then presented me with a price which was more than $4000 (~10%) over the previously represented price. Eventually the Sales Mgr emerged to belligerantly berate me that I couldn't expect to get this limited-availability car for any less. As I moved to leave, he asked me to stay, then returned with a price "only" ~$3500 over what I had originally been told to expect. I left and found that 5 minutes later the General Sales Mgr had sent me an e-mail asking me to call and resolve the issue with him personally. I called his office two times with no reply. He eventually called me back days later, after I had already purchased the car from the dealer 120 miles away. He insisted that I could never get this car for less than thousands over MSRP, and gave a series of ridiculously lame excuses to explain why I had initially been told I'd get a price under MSRP only to have the thousands higher price presented at the last minute as I was ready to sign the papers. (I actually got the car at Sommer's Subaru in Mequon, WI - just North of Milwaukee - at a price hundreds below MSRP and thousands below the price Gerald tried to berate me into taking as a last minute bait-and-switch. Dealing with Sommer's was a perfect buying experience, 180 degrees from the maddening, frustrating, disrespectful, and unprofessional experience with Gerald.) I might have chalked-up my bad experience with Gerald to an unfortunate anomaly, or believed the excuses presented by the Sales Mgr and Gen'l Sales Mgr, except that I had had an identical experience with that same dealership 10 years earlier when I tried (and failed) to buy a new 2002 WRX from them. It is important that I share that 10-yr old experiecne with you as well. At that time I again had multiple visits, test drives, discussed options and all-in pricing. And again, when I arrived to sign the papers, I was presented with a price ~$2000 (~10%) over the previously stated price. Again I was told I could never find that rare car for any less. The very next day, I went to a dealer 1 hour away (in Schaumburg, IL) and purchased the exact same car at a price that was below Gerald's originally offered price and more than $2500 below the price they were insisting on with their last minute bait-and-switch. When I drove the new car from Schaumburg back to Gerald and showed the Gerald salesman (now retired) the price, he took me aside, quietly and sincerely apologized to me for the way they had treated me, and stated unequivocally that "unfortunately, this is the way our management wants us to treat the customers." I also had a different, but equally unsatisfying experience with Gerald Nissan in Naperville, resulting in my going to Bill Kay Nissan in Downers Grove to purchase a new 2009 Nissan GT-R. I urge car buyers to avoid any Gerald auto dealerships, but most especially to avoid dealing with Gerald Subaru/Kia. More

After having researched SUV's with manual transmissions I decided to try the Subaru Forester. Mazda has only 140 hp and I just can't bring myself to buy a Hyundai or Kia (sorry, Kia....) The Forester won't tear up the pavement but has enough pep for my needs, not to mention roominess and comfort. Gerald Subaru showed the only manual transmission Forester in stock in Illinois at the time yet negotiated a great price and provided an excellant buying experience. I will not hesitate to recommend Gerald Kia/Subaru to anyof my family and friends. More

My girl friend was interested in purchasing a new vehicle and based on her wants and needs, I strongly recommended that she consider a vehicle from Subaru product line. We researched the local dealerships and found this dealership listed on Dealer Rater, and we were surprised to see so many positive reviews that we decided to visit the dealership. Upon our arrival, Bob Schiavo greeted us with a friendly, warm smile and asked what could he do for us today. My girlfriend explained that she was interested in the Subaru legacy. After she explained what she was looking for in a vehicle, Bob took us on a tour of the Subaru Legacy. He was well versed and very knowledgeable on the product line which was quite impressive to say the least. He was very attentive and truly listened to what was said through out the course of our conversions. By the end of the appointment, my girl friend was ready to purchase a Subaru from this dealership. I was so pleased with my experience as well, that I decided to purchase one myself. I visited the dealership a few days later and spoke with Michael Gately. Given that my financial situation was different, Mike was still able to meet my needs and make the numbers work in my favor. For the record, Mike Gately was also well versed and very knowledgable on the product line. He was also very attentive and did listen to all that was said during our extensive conversation. Long story short, we purchased two vehicles within 5 days from this dealership....Need I say more! Eric S. More
