Gary Rome Hyundai responded

This client did come into our dealership, where we inspected for an oil leak as he had stated. He was told by the last mechanic that worked on the vehicle it had a leak at the front engine cover, and that leak, may have caused a failure of the alternator. What we did find was a leak on one of the engine valve covers. The leak was not a major one, and I did find out when I spoke to this client late in the day on Friday that the area was not cleaned so indeed not a large oil leak at all. The Service Manager as instructed by myself did not charge a fee for inspecting the vehicle, and also offered a discount to this client to replace either the one valve cover gasket, or both, as it is much easier and cost effective to do both while the top of the engine is apart, to which he declined. I was unable to be present that day as I had planned. The client and I both contacted Hyundai separately to see if some assistance would be available, neither of us in this case were successful. The vehicle is in fact out of warranty, having been purchased as a used vehicle. An alternator would be a 5year or 60,000 mile item and was replaced under factory warranty back on Feb. 25th of 2011 at a mileage of 51,468.The Hyundai factory warranty expired on this vehicle at 60,000 miles and or on 7/14/2012. Current mileage on this vehicle as of Nov 1st 2012 was 87,493. Even if the Alternator was paid for by the client back in Feb. 2011, it is over the normal 12 month or 12,000 mile warranty that we as a dealership and Hyundai have as a parts warranty. We regret we were unable to gain assistance in this case. Our offer still stands for assisting him in the cost of the oil leak repair only.
