2015 Honda Accord I purchased a 2015 Honda Accord LX from Honda of Illinois. The sales team were extremely helpful and there was no pressure at all. There is a possibility that the sales associate who sold me the car explained to me that the 2015 Accord has a new transmission, the CVT-However, if he did I do not recall that conversation. The first time I heard about CVT transmission was during my first oil change at Dobbs when my Accord had 3100 miles on it. This was in May of 2015 and the service manager at Dobbs informed me that I needed to make sure that my transmission fluid is regularly checked and changed as CVT transmissions, at least the ones he has seen, break down easily. I was immediately concerned as I obviously dropped the ball and did not do my homework on the this Accord prior to purchasing. If I had done the proper research, there is no way I would have purchased a Honda with a CVT transmission. With that said, on September 8th while on the highway driving to Bloomington my Honda simply stopped accelerating. I was going about 75 miles per hour and this could have been extremely dangerous had there been traffic. I pulled over to the side of the highway and turned the car off. The car started up smoothly but would not drive or go into reverse. I was only about 25 miles from Springfield so I had it towed to Honda of Illinois where I had purchased the vehicle. At the time that the transmission went out the car had 129,000 miles on it (so yes I do plenty of driving). However I have owned two Honda's in the past, a 1992 Accord which I got 389,000 miles on until I gave it to my brother. And a 2004 CRV which I still own and has 250,000 miles on it and it still drives fine. In addition, my wife has a 2008 Civic with nearly 300,000 miles on it. I did not have any transmission issues with either of these vehicles, nor did wife. Once the car was towed to Honda Of Illinois, a member of the service department called me and stated that my transmission went out. He also stated that the cost to replace would cost me $10,000. Needless to say I was blown away and full of different emotions. There was no way I was going to pay $10,000 as the car is not even paid off (I have another year left). I told the service department that I definitely was not going to pay that and he calmly stated that he understood. I subsequently emailed the manager of the dealership, Billy Lynch on 09/12/18 and expressed my frustration and disappointment with the CVT transmission in my 2015 Accord. Within the email I left my phone number and as of September 24th, 2018, Mr. Bill Lynch has never responded to my email or called me regarding the matter. I had the Accord towed to a transmission shop back in my hometown and I was charged $4,000 for a factory remanufactured CVT transmission. The car is running fine but my peace of mind is gone! I'm am afraid to travel on long trips in anticipation that the transmission will go out again. With all of that said, I will never purchase another Honda, specifically one that has a CVT transmission in it. And I definitely will not be dealing with Honda of Illinois again. If the sales manager Bill Lynch cant even respond to my concerns then he obviously does not want any future business from me. So I would say "Buyer Beware" regarding CVT transmissions! They are cheaper to manufacture and are known to have issues and I am sure the Honda sales team will not inform you of this. More
