While my initial review of Ford of Kirkland was good, I have discovered that apparent customer service ends after the purchase is complete. So, I am changing my five-star rating of them to a one-star rating. I will also be contacting Ford. On Monday, August 24th I checked the state’s License Express and discovered that the license plates had been issued. On Tuesday I texted the salesman and asked if he could check to see if the plates were at Ford of Kirkland. He responded by giving me instructions to wait and that Ford of Kirkland would mail a post card in four to five weeks. I responded, thanks for checking. The salesman then replied with the receptionist’s telephone number. I called the receptionist, she said that my license plates had arrived and yes it would be okay for my fiancé to pick them up (she works in the area). When my fiancé arrived home. She said the receptionist told her that I owed Ford of Kirkland $234. I thought that was strange because the receptionist did not say anything to me about it while I was on the phone her. I called the receptionist. She confirmed that Ford of Kirkland thinks I owe them $234. I asked her to email a detailed statement of why. On Wednesday morning I received an email that basically said Ford of Kirkland underestimated the cost of my license plate fees. My contract says that the fees were only an estimate and I would be responsible for the difference. This reminded me that towards the end negotiating the purchase price of my vehicle I encountered difficulty qualifying for one of the advertised $500 Ford incentives that I believe that I should have easily been qualified to receive. Brian, who was doing the negotiations for Ford of Kirkland, agreed to reduce the price by $500. We then agreed on a purchase price and total mount financed. It now occurs to me that Ford of Kirkland may have figured out a way to claw back a little bit of that money. If they underestimate licensing fees, then their bottom line increases and the customer ends up owing more. Ford of Kirkland sells many cars. Do they always underestimate licensing fees by 34%? Do they always underestimate licensing fees by hundreds of dollars? At best, this is incompetence… So on Wednesday morning I replied to Ford of Kirkland, I asked how they can possibly underestimate this fee by 34%? Would I be invoiced? I’d like to have something in writing. I also mentioned that I was bit uncomfortable doing further business with Ford of Kirkland and that I was considering cancelling the extended warranty and maintenance plan. I asked them for detail on how to cancel those plans. On Thursday I had not received a response from Ford of Kirkland. So I replied again asking for the name and email address of a person that would actually respond. I was told that my email was forwarded to the finance department. I was given a name but no email address. Today, Friday afternoon, so far I have not received an email response from Ford of Kirkland. I did receive a post card in the mail from them saying that my license plates were in, I could pick them up and that I owed $234. Bottom line, Ford of Kirkland is very responsive when they are selling a vehicle. After the fact not so much.

Lee, we do apologize for your situation. We do estimate the amount for the licensing fees and sometimes customers get a refund, and sometimes they do have to pay. We do not know the exact amount until we get the paperwork done through Washington State. I assure you we did not make anything up or not give you a rebate to try to get money away from you.
