Upon reading my review the dealership responded immediately and gave me a service appointment the same day, which was much appreciated. Unfortunately, no work was done. A small torsion spring that holds in place the plastic piece being replaced was also damaged. Their mechanic did not think himself capable of straightening or replacing it. The proposed solution - to remove and replace the entire rocker arm assembly containing the spring and to require me to buy a second, unneeded rocker arm assembly because they are only sold as a set (for $1400) - was ridiculous. I appreciate that the modern way is to fix nothing - just remove the component that is not working, throw it away, and put in a new one. It may be unfair to expect the dealership to have mechanics who can do more. BUT, grouping components from around the car that have nothing to do with one another into a “set”so that the customer must buy lots of expensive parts to get the one he needs is rapacious. There is still wisdom in the saying, “You can shear a sheep many times but you can slaughter it only once.”

End of story: I took the to an independent shop, bimmerlogic. The mechanic there took a pair of pliers, straightened the torsion spring, and installed the trim part. They charged me for one hour of shop time. The five unneeded trim pieces BMW made me buy to get the one I needed will be offered for sale on eBay.
