USED CAR BUYERS BEWARE - The dealership SCAMS its buyers of low-mileage certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles by replacing the original tires of the vehicle with worn-out tires that barely meet the minimum tread depth required for the vehicle to qualify as a CPO vehicle and that wear out within 10K miles.
I bought a 2023 Certified Pre-owned Nissan Rogue in November with 3,000 miles from LaFontaine Nissan in Troy, MI. Since then, I've put about 7,000 miles on it and had one tire rotation. I recently looked at the tires and noticed that the tire tread is already down near the tread wear indicator bar, which is a raised bar found in the groove of the tire that indicates when the tire tread is about worn out.
That's right -- all four tires on my 2-year old vehicle with only 10,000 miles would ALREADY need new tires. So I called the dealership and explained the situation, thinking that they would help me get the tires replaced with new tires considering no tire should be worn out at 10K miles.
The used car manager said there was nothing they could do. He then (maybe not in these exact words) openly admitted that the dealership took off the original tires that came with the vehicle and replaced them with worn-out tires that barely met the minimum tread depth required for the vehicle to still be able to qualify as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle through Nissan.
