At first glance, we liked this dealership. The salesperson we worked, Mark, seemed authentic, wasn’t pushy, and he worked with us to get what we felt like was a fair deal on the truck. Then, we found out how unethical and shady the dealership actually is. When it was time to sign the contract for the vehicle we decided to purchase, we declined the VIN etching of $399 and asked for the fee to be removed before the sale was finalized. The salesperson replied to our email and said "Given the large discount on the vehicle itself, I cannot waive VIN mark." I have purchased several vehicles before and know (from their own contract that explicitly states this fee is optional as well as from Connecticut state law) that this fee is optional. I replied to the email citing CT state statute which outlines it is illegal for a dealership to mandate this optional fee and stated we would not be moving forward with the purchase. The salesperson then reached out again and said he "read our email with his manager and could waive the VIN etching fee if we would still purchase the vehicle." Their offer to waive the VIN etching fee was simply the dealership agreeing to abide by Connecticut state law, despite them acting as though it was a favor we should be thanking them for. We did not move forward with purchasing a vehicle from this dealership nor we will be back in the future. Note: *I am rating the sales person we worked with, Mark, 5 stars instead of 1 (like the dealership rating) because while this experience with the dealership was bad, Mark was always respectful, kind, and did what he could to help after we brought up the issue (by speaking to his manager and then following up with us). It was obvious that the refusal to waive the optional VIN etching was out of Mark's control and he was following orders from management and stuck in the middle, and unfortunately, his name is tied to this poor review because of the way the decision-makers and managers within the dealership handled it. At no point did we have an issue with Mark and would recommend HIM, but not the dealership. More
