Beware of Toyota Boerne’s “Gold Certified” Vehicles – My Nightmare Experience I was beyond excited to buy a Gold Certified Toyota Corolla from Toyota Boerne, thinking I was getting a reliable car. Instead, Nightmare Experience I was beyond excited to buy a Gold Certified Toyota Corolla from Toyota Boerne, thinking I was getting a reliable car. Instead, I got a mold-infested vehicle, terrible customer service, and a runaround that wasted my time, money, and energy. The Problem Shortly after purchasing my car, a winter storm hit Texas, so I didn’t use the A/C for a while. As the weather warmed up, I finally turned it on—only to be hit with a strong mold smell from the vents. I replaced the air filter, aired out the car, and tried everything, but the smell always came back. Soon, I started feeling sick, had to take days off work, and saw a doctor. After recovering, I turned the A/C on again—it was unbearable. The odor was even worse after the car sat unused for a few days. Service Department’s Complete Lack of Accountability I called the service department and was told not to worry because my car was Gold Certified and under an extended warranty. Thinking the issue would be resolved, I scheduled an appointment. When I arrived, the dealership was under renovation, so the service team was working out of portables. After waiting 10 minutes, I asked a man at a folding table (who seemed to be a manager) for help. A service advisor eventually came over, and I explained everything—including how I was told this would be covered. Instead of helping, he immediately tried to quote me for repairs. When he asked the manager what to do, the manager didn’t even look at me and dismissively said: "Tell him to go talk to whoever sold him that car." I was standing just a few feet away and heard everything. Instead of even acknowledging me, the service department refused to look at my car and completely brushed me off. Sales Department’s Ridiculous “Solution” Since the service department refused to help, I was sent to the sales department, where I waited an hour and a half for my original sales agent. When he finally arrived, I was told the best solution was to trade in my car and buy another one. I returned on Monday to discuss options. After another long wait, they finally presented me with an offer: they would buy back my car—but I would need to pay over $8,000 more for another used, Gold Certified Corolla. For reference, I originally bought my car for $15,000, which was my budget. Their first offer was over $23,000 for the same model, just with fewer miles. I immediately turned it down, frustrated that their only solution was to make me spend even more money instead of fixing the car I had already purchased. They went back to the finance department and returned with another offer—this time, $22,000. Again, I refused. Not giving up, they came back yet again, this time offering $21,500, trying to justify it by saying the car had fewer miles. I still turned it down. At no point did they offer to run diagnostics, repair my car, or even apologize for selling me a mold-infested vehicle. Instead, they just kept pushing me to spend more money to fix their mistake. Final Thoughts Toyota Boerne uses the Gold Certified label to create a false sense of security. My "certified" vehicle had serious issues, and instead of taking responsibility, they wasted my time, gas, and energy with empty promises and manipulative sales tactics. 🚨 Buyer Beware 🚨 – If you’re considering purchasing a Gold Certified Toyota from Toyota Boerne, think twice. It might just come with hidden problems and zero accountability. More
I was looking for a used car and the salesman Jorge Velasco was able to get me a great deal on a vehicle. Jorge was professional, friendly and made the transaction as smooth as possible. I don’t know why I keep doing this. Last year, I bought a beautiful 2024 Tundra CrewMax SR5 from TOB. This will be my last Tundra as I plan to retire in a couple of years. Tundras have Last year, I bought a beautiful 2024 Tundra CrewMax SR5 from TOB. This will be my last Tundra as I plan to retire in a couple of years. Tundras have always been good to me, and I baby my truck. I watch for dings daily because I hate them. I know, it’s an obsession. Now, to the reason for this review. When I got the truck, it came with 24-month maintenance. I’m not a fan of any dealer touching my truck, especially TOB, due to past issues. But it’s “free,” and more importantly, I don’t want to give TOB any reason not to honor the warranty, especially since these Tundras have a reputation for engine problems. So, on Friday, I went in for the 15k maintenance. The advisor came out and did his thing, then said he needed to walk around to check for any damage. I told him there was none. A half hour later, they were done, and I went home and parked the truck. The next day, my brother came over to show me his new Honda Pilot Elite. He looked at the Tundra and said, “When did you get those dings?” I laughed, thinking he was kidding, but he wasn’t. On the driver’s side rear door, right on the column, was a ding. About a foot below, towards the bottom of the rear door column, was a smaller ding. I know they weren’t there on Friday, but they were there on Saturday. I didn’t go shopping, and even when I do, I park where the truck isn’t between other cars. I’m disappointed. I thought about going back tomorrow to show them, but what’s the point? They will probably say (and I’m assuming) that it’s my responsibility to check for dings before I leave the dealership. I didn’t. I trusted them. No, that’s not true. I was in a hurry to get home and get to work, and I got burned. I will not take the truck back to TOB. I will do my own oil changes or find another dealer. I just hate driving to San Antonio for maintenance. And nobody will take care of my vehicle better than I will. I’m invested here. Anyway, I now have dings on my beautiful truck, and I know it happened while at TOB’s shop. But since I can’t prove it, when it bothers me too much, I know a guy who will fix them for me. So, lesson learned: Do not leave TOB until you walk around to make sure your vehicle has not been damaged. More
