I took my Toyota Highlander to Shore Toyotafor a maintenance check. They included a great car wash job, which I was not expecting! It was very dirty, with salt and dirt on all four sides, and when I maintenance check. They included a great car wash job, which I was not expecting! The added service calls to verify appointments are over the top and unnecessary. I was annoyed that my service appointment was misquoted and was being attempted to be changed by in house call to verify app the top and unnecessary. I live about 3 miles from Shore Toyota current location (Black Horse Pike), but have had experience with Shore Toyota since it was located at Fire Road. I've noticed that Shore Toyota recently received mo (Black Horse Pike), but have had experience with Shore Toyota since it was located at Fire Road. I've noticed that Shore Toyota recently received more favorable reviews. If these reviews are authentic, then I hope this is the indicator the dealer is really trying to change the way it had done business in the past. However, below has been my experience with Shore Toyota. In 1994: Visited Shore Toyota at the old location to buy a car. The sales asked for my SSN because his manager "required" it to see if I was serious about buying the car. Although I told them I had obtained loan with my credit union and forbid them to run my credit check, later I found out Shore Toyota ran my credit check anyway. I bought a Subaru instead. In 2006: Visited Shore Toyota at a new location to buy a RAV4 for my wife. I showed the salesman my written quote at another Toyota dealer and asked him to match it. The salesman asked me to deposit $100 cash so he can show his manager that I'm serious about buying a car. I refused and he begged me to help him out with his manager by deposit something. As soon as I gave him a check of $100 for deposit, he turned agressive and quoted me a price $5,000 more than sticker price, including a "prep fee" or $2,000. I refused to buy the car, but the salesman would not return my check. They kept me waiting in the show room and occasionally someone would stop by and introduced himself to me as a "sales manager" and told me to work with him on a price. I told them that they had my price, and demand my deposit check back if they don't want to sell me the car. They kept this game on for awhile until raised my voice in front of some customers just walked in and threaten to call the police to the dealer if they don't return my check. Finally, another "sales manager" appeared and gave me a quote about $300 more than my price. Since the car was for my birthday, I agreed and purchased the car. Nevertheless, they didn't give me my deposit check back until after I sign the purchase agreement. A general manager tried to persuade me to give Shore "excellence" rating, which I refused. A customer service rep. called me later and offered me two free oil change coupons and a free car wash/wax at 1st anniversary. Therefore, I'm a bit skeptical about the recent surge of favorable reviews. August 2010: I'm looking to buy another RAV4 since my wife's RAV4 was totaled in an accident. I received an e-mail from Shore touted their upfront no-haggle "Unbeatable Internet price" and "Meet or Beat" policy. I got a quote from Fitzgerald Chambersburg Toyota, then contacted Shore "Internet Department". Phil replied and after a couple of my e-mail gave me a quote of about $1,000 less than MSRP with the note that this is their lowest price they are "allowed" to quote in writing (???) with the implication that the price can be negotiated. (Thus, there is nothing about up-front and no-haggle about the price, unless you want to pay a high price). I came to Shore Toyota and showed the quote from Fitzgerald to test their "Meet or Beat" policy, but was told by a "sales manager" that in "this market" the RAV4 are being sold "at or near MSRP". Don't want to waste anymore time, I went to Chambersburg 200 miles away and bought my 2010 RAV4 there for significant lower price. Services: Horrible. First oil change in 2006 was over-filled by a quart. I took my car back and was told by a "service manager" why being so picky because a quart of more oil won't hurt the engine. When changed oil myself the next time, I found out that no gasket was used for the oil plug and the oil filter was over-torqued. I came back to have the 30,000 mile maintenance done in April 2010 because I received an e-mail from Shore Toyota, and was written up by Bob Anderson. I told Bob that I had bad experience but willing to give Shore another chance. Bob told me he would put the best technician. When I picked-up the car there was no report on the car condition (i.e. brake pads, battery, etc.) or what has been done to the car. I just got a bill stated "30,000 mile maintenance" for $299 plus tax and fees. They took $25 off for the coupon, but charged me $25 for washer fluid and coolant. Funny thing is I just topped off all my fluids a few days ago. I contacted Bob the next day and asked for the report on the condition of my car. He faxed me a hand written report without my car detailed info (such as mileage, etc.), which made me wonder whether this is an actual report or someone just made it up after the fact. I think the main problem with Shore Toyota is organizational culture: nobody cares and everyone is trying to make a quick buck. I truly hope they will hire someone with integrity and organizational skills to turn this dealer around so I don't have to drive 30 miles Turnersville Toyota for services. More
Although my trip to purchase the vehicle required us to drive about 4 hours there (and stay over night), Shore Toyota made it worth it. Because of the good price, great service and wonderful experience I drive about 4 hours there (and stay over night), Shore Toyota made it worth it. Because of the good price, great service and wonderful experience I received, my wife and I do not mind driving up there again for other purchases in the future. The staff was always avaiailable throughout my whole buying process from day one. The staff was very knowledgeable as I had thrown out some test questions regarding the vehicle and they answered it right away. This was not the case when I test drove the same vehicle at my local Bill Page Toyota in VA. The salesperson I test drove with at my local Bill Page Toyota (1.3 rating by the way), she had no clue how to answer any of my questions that I asked her. Simple questions like what does this button do or how to use the sport shifter. I believe a "sales consultant" should know their product if they're trying to sell it. right? At Shore Toyota, I asked the same test questions, and the sales person answered me right away with the correct answer AND with a detailed explanation!!! I wish I got his name but don't remember. In addition, Bill Page had the nerve to accuse Shore Toyota of luring their customers in with a "bait and switch" tactic. They said that's going to happen to me if I drove up there to purchase my vehicle for said price. They said a lot of customers drove back to BillPage after finding out Shore lied to them. They also couldn't match the price Shore offered to me. I took the risk and drove up there anyways, Shore Toyota proved them wrong!!! I can't wait to "accidentally" drive my new vehicle in their parking lot. Transaction went smoothly, great professionalism, sales person made us feel at home. Great buying experience!!! Will recommend others and will return for next purchase. Thanks Shore Toyota, pt More
This is my second vehicle purchase from Shore Toyota in 2 years and I've dealt with customer service regularly... Everyone at Shore Toyota is friendly and knowlegable. I have purchased 6 new vehicles over th years and I've dealt with customer service regularly... Everyone at Shore Toyota is friendly and knowlegable. I have purchased 6 new vehicles over the last 12 years and would highly recommend this dealership over all others. The sales department is friendly, honest and will work to get you the best deal fast so you don't have to spend the full day at the dealership. As for the service department, Lori will get you in and out with quality service. 5 years ago I purchased a 2006 Toyota Tacoma from a Gateway toyota and I was promised a bed extender by Jim Dennis (my salesman) he never put this in writing and I never received it... He strung me along from week to week saying "I haven't received it yet, try back in about a week. Two years later and still nothing. Also, I had a plastic part break from the interior, I took it to Gateway Toyota and they spent 6 months ordering the wrong parts, the wrong color parts and breaking parts they shouldn't have touched. I finally stopped trying to get it fixed and purchased a 2009 Tacoma from Shore Toyota; I received EVERYTHNIG promised by Shore Toyota and would never go anywhere else again. Shore Toyota doesn't play games-these people actually care about you and your vehicle. More
