On July 4,2015, just after 11pm I was t 2013 Hyundai Sonata Approx. 43,000 miles- well within the advertised 60,000 bumper to bumper warranty. On July 4,2015, just after 11pm I was traveling on US Route 1 in New Brunswick NJ I exited US 1 on to NJ 18 North.As I accelerated to merge with the Rt 18 traffic, the vehicle suddenly lost all power.I was unable to maneuver to the side of the road and came to a stop just before the exit ramp to US 1 south.Heavy traffic was passing me on both sides. I turned on the emergency flashers and unsuccessfully attempted to re start the vehicle. I stayed in the car and called 911.Suddenly, black smoke billowed out from under the hood. The acrid smell was that of an electrical fire. I feared being trapped in a fire. I exited the vehicle, barely avoiding the oncoming traffic. A few minutes later the New Brunswick fire department arrived on the scene. The New Brunswick police arrived shortly thereafter. They were able to roll the vehicle backwards to the side of the road. I was not permitted by the police to call Hyundai Roadside Service or AAA due to the dangerous location of the incident. The police called for a local tow truck and the vehicle was towed to my driveway. Hyundai Roadside service refused to pick up the vehicle until Monday morning. On Monday, July 6th, I waited from 8am until 11am before a service person, Luis Martins, spoke with me. He told me the the engine had seized because I had not changed the oil and he showed me "sludge" on the engine. I told him that the oil had been changed in April and that I had the receipt to prove it. He began to rudely tell me that the service manager would not be in until tomorrow. He told me that i would need to speak to him tomorrow because he would need to "call the district office". I was told that "all 3" of the dealership's loner cars were out and were not expected back in. I was told to go rent a car from the Rental company onsite. . I was told that the service manager, "Patrick", would call me today. (to be continued) More
