We were in need of a Honda Civic to replace one we lost in an auto accident. We looked all over the state of Iowa and contacted many dealerships. My overall experience purchasing a new Honda CR-V was very good w/Randy Kuehl Honda. I worked w/Internet Manager Isaiah Townsend over the phone/Internet to negotiate my trade & purchase. Isaiah was very very good w/Randy Kuehl Honda. I worked w/Internet Manager Isaiah Townsend over the phone/Internet to negotiate my trade & purchase. Isaiah was very professional & fast w/response to my request & needs to trade/purchase a new vehicle. Only negative issue on the whole experience was length of time to complete transaction, due to internet connection issues it took twice as long to finalize deal. I would recommend friends & family to make a purchase at this dealership. Thank you, George Nazarenus More
I called and spoke with Isaiah on te phone to cover come basic questions that I had. He asnwered those that he knew and took down the others to get answers to those. He called be back in about ten minute basic questions that I had. He asnwered those that he knew and took down the others to get answers to those. He called be back in about ten minutes with answers to all of the remaining questions that I had. I generally prefer to buy cars from individuals rather than dealerships because dealerships frequently are unwilling to discuss price in a realistic fashion. So when I called then in the beginning, (even before I drove to their car lot) I asked Isaiah if the price I could afford was in the range that they could accept. Isaiah had to check it out and when the answer was "yes" everything else was simply finishing touches on the deal. It couldn't have been a smotther transaction. My wife was a bit over done with the speed of the transaction at times, but everyone was very willing to slow down whenever that happened. Obviously, I can not speak for everyone who looks for a car at Randy Kuehl's, but for me, establishing a price at athe start made everything else comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend them to my friends, and will very likely check them out the next time I need a car. I am not niave enough to believe that they will be as willing to compromise on price next time, but I am still going to start there. Best of luck with your bying experience. More

My rating is purely based on the service department. They are excellent. They replaced the torque converter o-ring on my wife's 2005 CR-V back in May. It took them 3 days to get the part in and fix it They are excellent. They replaced the torque converter o-ring on my wife's 2005 CR-V back in May. It took them 3 days to get the part in and fix it but they did a good job. Well, the part failed and they ordered a new o-ring and got in done in less than a day. They didn't charge a dime and were honest and up front about the cause of the second leak and that there would be no cost to me. I never worry about taking my car to their service department. However, I would echo some of the problems that some buyers have had when purchasing or trying to purchase a car. I tried to buy a certified Odyssey from them and they wouldn't negotiate the price at all. The sales manager wouldn't even meet with me to talk price. I was even willing to let them take the certified warranty off the car if they could come down on price. No deal and no meeting with sales manager. I bought my van from the local Toyota dealer who took 2500.00 off the price to which was well under book and far less than what R.K. Honda wanted for a similar van. Their current slogan is "locally owned and operated" (presumably) because of Billion Honda in Iowa City. If you want people to buy local, you have to act like you want them to buy local. If you want them to buy from your dealership then you have to act like it. I see more Chezik-Bell Honda stickers on local Hondas than I do Randy Kuehl stickers on local Hondas. And, the Billion Honda stickers are becoming more frequent as well. This says something about the Randy Kuehl sales department. I will always take my car there for service but I would travel to Chicago or Minneapolis to buy my Honda. If I want big city treatment when buying a car, I will just go to one. More
Originally started search online for CRV-SE, Billion Auto explained that one wasn't currently available (expected one in about 1 month), but had the 2010 EX available and went into detail with better deal. explained that one wasn't currently available (expected one in about 1 month), but had the 2010 EX available and went into detail with better deal. Isaiah at Randy Kuehl simply wrote "Thanks for your reply, as of right now the only thing we can go by is what Honda has posted on there website. There are no 2011 CRV's out yet. So I can't give you accurate pricing on it yet." He does not have very good written communication or sales skills. I had to email him repeatedly and it was like pulling teeth to get the same information that Billion sent immediately. When I said the price was too high, he asked me what I was willing to pay. I quoted him what I wanted it to be with everything ("taxes," fees, etc). He ranted about how everything has tax (bread, tv, vehicles). Well someone should inform him bread is not taxed, nor are vehicles in the state of Iowa, it is a one time registration fee. I wasn't asking not to pay tax, he knew what the fees would consist of (I didn't because he never answered those questions) so he should have been able to back them out and figure out what it should have been. Ultimately he re-quoted the first price. So you must understand my confusion as to why he even asked for my opinion. I should have gone to Billion, she had a better price and she even offered to drive the car to me. But I was pressured to buy local, and I thought going in there to deal with someone else was going to be the better option. I went in Wednesday after work, walked through their parking lot and into the dealership, proceeded to look closely on every desk out there (for business cards) not one person even acknowledged I was there. Came in the next night and was probably there for 10 minutes before the manager asked me if I needed anything and then passed me off to Tom. I was pretty much agreeable and didn't question the price the Isaiah had quoted so many times anyway. He located the car and kept me informed as to when it came in. We scheduled a delivery date. He sent me an email the day before to remind me to bring the title to my trade-in, I sent a reply email about an hour later indicating that I did not want the car defaced with a decal (it being a locate, I knew their decal would not have been on it). The next morning when I went to pick the vehicle up he claimed he didn't see the email until that morning and that I could have the decal removed when I brought the car in for the interior/exterior protection. When I brought the car in I handed them a note reminding them to take that decal off and told them I would need a shuttle that afternoon/evening. She said that she would have someone call me to schedule the pick-up. No one called. I called 15minutes before I was supposed to get off and they never got the message. He did pick me up 30 minutes after I was off and he was probably the only positive part of the whole experience. I picked up the car and noticed the decal was still there when I got to my son's daycare. I promptly called Aaron who said he handed the note to the "guys" and apologized. He said that he would call me the next day to arrange for them to come to the car to remove it and apply the protectant in that spot. No phone call. So I call him a few minutes after 5 and conveniently he left at 5pm. I was told they were going to contact him and have him call me right back from his cell phone. That was last week and still no call. That night I emailed my sales person, and again one week and no contact. If they would ever get back to me they would also hear about the interior protection where I can see the outline of the section they forgot to do. Now backing up to the finance guy/process. They sell these extended warranties and maintenance plans in packages, not quoting the price of them, but what your payment would be with them. I asked him what the payment would have been without any of the plans and then followed with what the actual price would have been. He mumbled something that sounded like about a thousand. Now I should have stopped him when the total price didn't jive, but I didn't. Upon closer examination it was three different things, not a package, totaling over $2800. I submitted the appropriate written notice to cancel these (as well as requests to get the additional fees back) and he informed me that there were actual papers to sign, you know if I wanted to cancel my peace of mind. I told him when I would be there and to have them ready, and if he was unavailable to give them to someone who could help me immediately. Well I arrived and they had to call him back to his office repeatedly only to have him pull BLANK forms out of his desk, to which he told me to initial and sign and he would fill in the tops later (to this day I have not received the copies, so I am skeptical that he even filed them). One other thing that stood out was that he informed me that I would not longer get a discount on oil changes (they were supposed to be free with the plan) and they would be $50. The day I bought the car Tom told me they only charged $27, so I was a little confused. I do not find car buying an enjoyable experience, this process took an extremely long time and that is time away from my child. And it still isn't over, because my car is still defaced. More
The sales person as well as the sales manager were insulting and arrogant. They were not willing to negotiate a fair deal at all. Looking to replace an aging minivan and had narrowed our choices down to 3 choices with the Odyssey being one of them. Also looking at getting a closeout deal on 2010 model. Our initial stop was right a choices down to 3 choices with the Odyssey being one of them. Also looking at getting a closeout deal on 2010 model. Our initial stop was right around closing time and it was busy. As we were driving off, Chanin stopped us briefly to invite us back. We took him up on it and are glad we did. He is knowledgeable about the vehicle and seemed genuinely interested in earning our business rather than just having it. In the end we got a fair price based upon what I found on Edmunds.com and a couple of other sites. There was some salesmanship in terms of add-ons and pricing, but not more than expected and not pushy in any way - it was always respectfully done. We got the vehicle we wanted. We got treated well and are comfortable that we'll continue to get treated well by the service staff and others. Bottom line is that we felt at home not only with the vehicle and deal that we got, but with the dealer as well. We would highly recommend Chanin as he was great to work with. More
