I was a little skeptical when I was referred to dealerrater.com - I figured there was no way ANY car dealership would have this high of a rating. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by my experience with this dealership. The price was more than $1000 cheaper than other dealerships in the Northern Virginia, making the hour drive well worth the time. I asked Kent to give me the out door price before I left, and when I arrived, it was the exact price quoted - no additional bogus fees added on (unlike some other dealerships I have dealt with). In addition, Pohanka does not charge a freight fee for the vehicle (usually $750), unlike the 4-5 Honda dealerships I visited in the Northern VA area. The service was also excellent. Kent walked me through every part of the car and patiently answered all my questions. I also appreciated that the process was very quick. We were out the door in one hour and 45 minutes, and I didn't feel as I was being pushed to buy any additional options or extended warranties. More
I recently purchased a new, 2010 Honda Fit from Pohanka Honda of Fredericksburg. I worked with Kenny Wolter (sales consultant), and I had a specific interest in the Base model Fit. Finding a Fit can be a bit of a challenge, given its high demand (or lack of) at a moment’s notice. Nonetheless, and within a few days, Kenny located the model I was interested in through another Honda dealership in Virginia. One day after taking ownership of the Fit I noticed what I thought to be a minor issue with the front-end of the car. I contacted Kenny Burke (service consultant) and explained the issue at hand. At this point, Kenny had Duane Bryant (technician) look at the car for an evaluation. Duane’s expertise became second to none when he discovered the issue to be a factory defect. The defect turned out to be fixable, but Mike Fink (service manager) and Ken Graham (general manager)asked me if I’d be willing to wait a week or so while they investigated the problematic issue with other corporate Honda representatives. Within one week of the initial findings I had a telephone call from Tim Cosgrove (sales manager), informing me that I would be given a new Fit; and again, the base model and color that I wanted was located through another Honda dealership in Virginia. At this time, Pohanka had two other Fits in their inventory, but they knew that I had a preference for the earlier model that I’d specified. In other words, Pohanka took the extra step to satisfy me, the customer. The new Fit is a super model. As a coincidence, this Fit was manufactured at the same plant as my 1985 Civic Wagon; that being, Sayama, Saitama Japan. The Fit is a fun car to drive, economical for those of us who are thrifty, and I hope to keep it for a generation or two. I've had the pleasure of dealing with Pohanka Honda of Fredericksburg since their beginning in 1998 – first at their Jefferson Davis Highway location, and now at their new location at I-95 and Route 17 (Exit 133). Thanks to Pohanka Honda of Fredericksburg for providing me with the best of sales and service throughout the years. The recent intervention role that Pohanka Honda played with corporate Honda protected my interests, and left me fully satisfied with this 2010 Fit. If you want to waste an entire Saturday getting nothing accomplished, then Pohanka Honda is the place for you. If not, then avoid the place like it has the black plague. We wasted 6 1/2 hours of our precious time getting passed around, pressured and lied to from multiple people of their staff, including their head manager. It took over 3 hours to just to see the car we wanted to buy, let alone start all the paperwork and negotiations. The salesperson we ended up with, Gunny, was very professional and knowledgable. But as soon as we started the numbers game, a sales manager was brought in, Barbara, with a high pressure, snobbish attitude towards my wife and I. She was rude to us and tried to pit us against each other when she got one of us alone, making up things, trying to sway a decision from us. It took almost 2 hours to negotiate the car price, the trade in price, and options. They didn't have the color we wanted, but was promised it would be easy to get one from another dealership. Then they went back on that and told us we had to take one off their lot in a color we didn't want. Then we were told they had one coming in on Monday that we could buy. Six hours at the dealership and about to start signing paperwork and the head manager decides he doesn't want to sell us the one coming in on Monday for the agreed prices and told us again we had to take one off the lot. So recap: lied to, time wasted, treated poorly, bad customer service, and deals made that were changed late in the game. We walked away very upset and angry, feeling cheated and lied to. The next day we went to Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge and got a better deal in the color we wanted, treated like valued customers, and drove away in 3 hours in our new van happy. DON'T GO TO POHANKA! I had been looking around for a CRV for about 3 months. I knew what I wanted but was really getting frustrated with the dealers in the Washington area. Nobody seemed to be able to give me a price and when I did get a quote, there would be changes or the car I was looking for was not really available. Keep in mind, I was looking to purchase my 7th Honda. My frustration reached the point that I was willing to go to Carmax and buy something or buy a Hyndai from Fitzgerald in MD so I wouldn't have to go through this "game" to buy a car. On Monday I got really lucky. I sent an email to Pohanka in Fredrickburg to see if they could give me a price on a CRV they had listed in their new inventory. To make a long story short, I purchased the car the next morning. I got a fair price, the car I wanted, and was treated as a valued customer by a salesperson that wanted me to be satisfied. This is the way people should be able to buy a car. I would not hesitate to recommend Barbara(I have already recommended her to two potential customers) and will enthusiatically recommend Pohanka as a Honda dealer based upon the no nonsense selling approach of this dealership. I could not be happier with my experience! More
There is a reason why Pohanka Honda has such a high rating. It is because this dealer has the best customer service in the DC Metro area when it comes to buying a Honda. I visited about 4 or 5 Honda dealers before trying Pohanka Honda. I almost gave up the desire of buying a Honda because so many dealerships in Arlington and Alexandria were trying to be dishonest, play the waiting game and see if they can con you into an extra $800 bucks on top of their offering price, asking way too much or were just plain unprofessional. Barbara was the sales person I worked with and she did an awesome job from the moment we came to the dealership to the moment we drove off the lot with the car. As far as purchasing a car from Pohanka, My sales experience was top notch with Barbara and if I decide to buy another Honda from Pohanka, she will definitely be the person I work with. It also helped that this dealership offered me the lowest price on a Honda in the DC metro area. Great prices and customer service is definitely a recipe for being one of the best Honda dealers on the East Coast. Don't make a $800 to a $1000 mistake and buy your Honda from somewhere else. The only negative experience I had there was with the financing depeartment saying I needed to give my SSN to purchase the vehicle when I had my own financing and the financing person said it was required by law, but he couldn't produce any paper work to back this up. I had someone in the consumer assistance office within the Attorney Generals Office talk to some Attorneys and they said they have not heard of such a law. Other than that, I had the best car buying experience at Pohanka Honda. More
Just a great dealership to work with. Their salespeople are top notch and very efficient. Was out the door in less than 90 minutes with a new car. I would work with Joey and Mel again, for sure. Overall experience is 4/5 only because it took a really long time to complete the transaction - understandable on a busy holiday weekend. We received an awesome price quote from Pohanka through our USAA Car Buying Service. We got exactly what we wanted for the price quoted to us. Helena Fountain was extremely helpful, patient and professional as we worked through all the details of the purchase. Upon arrival at Pohanka, Helena met us and took us for a test drive in the vehicle we had agreed upon. The vehicle was exactly what we asked for. She had all of the documentation properly prepared and was very thorough and professional she explained all of the details. The whole process was very smooth. Everyone was came in contact with at Pohanka was very friendly and helpful. It was worth the 4 1/2 hour drive to VA; however, next time I might take the train to VA. The staff will arrange a pickup from the Amtrak station. I would highly recommend Pohanka. When we arrived at the dearlership Aaron had all our paper work ready, had us test drive the vehicle and then went over all of the features. We sat down to complete transaction and was out of dealership with our new Pilot within 2 hours. Everyone we dealt with was very friendly and helpful. Pohanka Honda is in a new location right off I-95 and I have never seen so many Hondas in one place so the selection is large.
