I test drove the Mazda CX5 and fell in love with it. Robert made it an easy, fun, and quick experience. Everything went very smoothly. I also liked how the GM came out and introduced himself and showed excellent customer experience. I highly recommend Open Road Mazda of Morristown. More
Worst experience ever On Saturday 02/12/2018 we went to buy a car from Open Road Mazda of Morristown and had the MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. In the past 10 years I had bought On Saturday 02/12/2018 we went to buy a car from Open Road Mazda of Morristown and had the MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. In the past 10 years I had bought 4 cars through different dealership, and more or less aware of the overall process of buying and all the dealers tricks you are going through the process. But this time it was something outrageous and terrible. Me and my wife decided to trade our Honda (CrV 4x4 EX 2010 120k miles in good condition) for the newer car and after some shopping in the internet we found 2 almost identical cars - Mazda CX-5 with low mileage at the same price on the Open Road Mazda of Morristown. We came in the evening in the midweek and talked with the agent Angelo about these cars, discuss possibility of financing, trade-in, dealership fees and overall process (Angelo put on our file numbers on doc fee 599$, MVC 300$, approximate trade in 5000$ and certification fee and taxes) and made a test drive. Everything looks fine. On Saturday 02/12 we decided to also look for other models to compare before making any decisions. We went to Hyundai dealership and Kia dealership in Bridgewater, looked and discussed the options they had, also both dealerships checked our Honda and give as 6000$ value for the car matching the KBB value (5200-6500$). But still we decided to check one more time with Mazda. We came around 4 pm, Angelo was busy with another customer so he passed us to another agent. We checked the car once again, and made a decision to buy it. Manager John, that start working with us pulled our file and began the paper work. He showed a preliminary contract with dealership figures: -940.00$ destination fees - 599.00$ documentation fees - 25.00$ postage fees - 6.00$ online MVC fees. On the question if there were all fees we are to pay - the answer was YES. Once again, we brought up to his attention that we discussed on trade in for our Honda CR-V according to KBB value and that other dealerships evaluated our car at 6000.00$. They started on our credit check application, asked for our Honda CR-V keys for evaluation. And we started to wait. First hour, another one. Waiting and waiting. On all our questions we were getting an answer “Yes, yes, Ok, our finance people are working on the best deal for you, don’t worry” and so on…… It was like 6 people standing and making a vision off “getting the best deal for us”. Again we were asked if we are putting any down payment, which we were and one of the managers took us to process that payment stating “Oh they are still working on your contract, but not to worry they will indicate your down payment in all figures”….blah blah blah… Mean time they start arranging a transfer of our car insurance and after 4 hour!!!! of siting we’ve been told to come to the other room. In our understanding and experience with other dealership they will start discussing the figures they have on so called “the best deal” (considering our trade in, deposit we’ve paid, bank rates… etc.). Stepping to the office of the finance manager Jonathan Arante the only thing we heard is “Congratulation, lets sign the papers” What papers??? No one show us any numbers!!! What are we signing for?? With the exact wording of “I’m sorry I thought THEY covered it with you already….” Jonathan pulled out the same preliminary contract paper John showed us 4 hours ago with the only written by hand and circled monthly payment figure of 325.98$ (where this number came for???? How was the amount calculated??? What was the bank rate??? What is the total amount of sale???) Completely shocked by the whole situation we asked to show us the numbers and Jonathan start looking at his computer and putting on the paper the numbers absolutely different from what we discussed 4 hours ago!! destination fee of 940.00$ were changed to 1550.00$ (for the used car?!), etch fee 199.00$, mail fee 25.00$ and MVC fee 125$. Our trade in value they put 3500$ (are you kidding me?!) and NO MENTION of the down payment again and total amount of sale. Seriously?!!! We talked before about our car value with an agent and there was no arguing about it. When we tell that in other dealership they estimated our Honda within the KBB value Jonathan said that they DON’T USE KBB for car value estimation… For me it was shock. KBB considered as a “gold” standard for decades in car trading field and only Open Road Mazda of Morristown not using it!? Being completely devastated and felt deceived looking at those numbers my wife began crying as she really loved the car, but completely was turn on the treatment from Open Road Mazda personnel... not surprisingly – paying 5000 more than expecting could get tears not only from a woman but from the hard-core man as well. And again, the mind games and playing with numbers began. They made the figures for trade in 4500$, decreased the fee of 1550$ to 500$ (does it mean they just wanted to gain extra 1000$ just like that from us??!). Though it looked better than initial number the feeling that you get in the hand of the con artist that played you rip you off totally spoiled the whole getting a new car happy feeling. We finished completely emptied and devastated around 9 pm, past 3 hours of their official closing time with absolutely horrible feeling of these “great deal”. So, after spending 5 hours in the dealership Open Road Mazda Morristown before signing a contract didn’t provide: Calculation of bank rate What service they did for Mazda CX-5 certification to be “certified – pre-own”. His initial price was even better than I found online. They didnt have the exact car in the color I was looking for but we found a comparable model with additional features and very pleasantly negotiated a fair price for the upgraded model ($9 more a month). In and out in less than 90 minutes. Michael even bought me a custom license plate frame for when I picked up my plates. Their leasing manager was brand new and made a couple mistakes on the paperwork. It happens. In return for me making an extra trip to sign more documents, they comped my first 2 oil changes. I've now had the car serviced there 3x with no issues and a total out of pocket of $60. Totally fair. And I love the car. Very satisfied. More

Met with a very knowledgeable sales rep, Angelo, who took us for the ride pointing out all the new features, especially tech features. Needed time because I was considering other cars and felt no pressure to make a deal right then. I decided on the Mazda a few days later and contacted Angelo via email for lease numbers. He made an initial offer. I did a lot of research on this car and lease calculations so a few emails back and forth and I got the number I was looking for. Very easy, all over email. No scary managers trying to intimidate me. Scheduled pickup for the following day and it was done. I appreciate the fact that they did not waste my time and play games like throw in unexpected items. I have 4 car leases (each family member) I have been leasing for the last 17 years so I have been through this many times at many dealerships. I only do business with dealerships like this one. When I have to deal with a salesperson that has to go back and forth to the manager and keeps me waiting and assumes I don't understand leasing and tries to confuse me with the fees and lease terms, I always walk out. Sales consultant Schuller was excellent to deal with and he was able to resolve some of the issues with the management staff. The management personnel, including the "closer" were like dealing with old fashioned auto salesman of the 70's and 80's. they were pushy, played games with the numbers and were uncomfortable to work with. Other complaints: +mgt. played hocus-pocus with the numbers;+just enough gas in the vehicle to get to the closest gas station;+mgt. explanation of the way NJ Sales tax is calculated, but not listed on the Sales Order was not concise or clear;+mgt. did not give me the Monroney (window MSRP sticker) until I found out it was missing from the documents packet. They seemed to be reluctant to part with it a few days later. My rating is thus based as follows: 5 for Schuller (sales consultant) and 2 for management which averages out to 3. If it was not for Schuller I would not recommend your store, if anybody goes there-watch your wallet and check your documents. More

Who seemed more interested in drinking his iced I went here on Saturday (July 15th) to look at a preowned certified Mazda 3, I got paired with Marty. Who seemed more interested in drinking his iced coffee than making a sale. I looked at the car and noticed that there was some scratches on the front and back bumper, I asked if it was used as a rental car he replied that it was a lease trade in. CARFAX report confirmed that I was indeed correct it was a rental car bought at auction. During the test drive I was asking about the warranty and he didn't know if the car was certified or not he also didn't give me a lot of information about the car. When I asked him how long he's worked for Mazda he told me 5 years. I would have hoped that Marty would have taken the time to print out the specs about the car so when asked questions he could give me an answer instead of I don't know. When it came down to how much the car would cost he didn't negotiate a deal except for knocking off $250 from the price. When I asked for a breakdown of the costs he told me that it would cost $995 for a pre delivery inspection which is a fluff considering that the car being Mazda certified is that it has to go through an 160 point check and any parts below 50% wear and tear needs to be replaced. When I mentioned this to Marty he just gave me a blank look. I was willing to make a deal today (Monday) in cash if the price was right. I politely left but I called June the woman who directed me to Marty to voice my concerns. I left a voicemail Saturday at 5 giving the date and time of my call and didn't get a response till 3 on Monday (granted I know they're closed on Sunday) when I voiced my concerns she said she wasn't going to make excuses for Marty's behavior, but between his behavior and not getting a reasonable prompt response when I left a voicemail it was apparent that they don't need my business. I brou Brought my car in for a recall notice. The repair took about an hour. When I came to pick it up, 40 dollars was missing from my center console. I brought it to the attention of the service manager, who proceeded to insinuate that it was my fault for leaving money in my car. Excuse me for thinking that a reputable business would be able to refrain from stealing from its customers. I will never be back and I recommend you all stay away. More
