I have never been treated like this before February 15th, 2014 My wife and I shopped around for a car of my like. We went to two Toyota dealers, a Nissan, a Mazda, and a Honda dealer. We ask February 15th, 2014 My wife and I shopped around for a car of my like. We went to two Toyota dealers, a Nissan, a Mazda, and a Honda dealer. We asked for a specific style and the Toyota and Nissan dealers were straight forward and told us that they didn’t have any and that shopping online would be the best option. I test drove a Z4 at the Mazda dealer and since it was an automatic, I did not like it. I told the sales person helping me and he sent me on my way wishing me luck. We got to the Norm Reeves Honda dealer at Cerritos in the afternoon and Rafael approached us. He asked if he could help us and we said we were looking for a two passenger vehicle like an S2000. He told us that we were in luck because they had one in the lobby. My wife and I saw the car and we couldn’t hide how much we liked the car. It was a 2000 Honda S200 with less than 48,000 miles, 2.0 vtech engine, black exterior, and leather interior. We went to Rafael’s cubicle to “crunch down” numbers. We were offered a 7.99% interest at 6 years. I asked Rafael if he was flexible with his commission and after speaking with his manager, Rafael came back and said he could only take off $100. We said ok, but we wanted the car at 5.99% interest for 3 years. I took the car for a drive and I loved it. One thing that I didn’t like was that the back plastic window was entirely scratched and I told Rafael that I wouldn’t make the deal if it wasn’t fixed. He went to speak to someone and he told me that it would be in the “due bill” so everything could work fine. WE HAD A DEAL! WE WERE WILLING TO PAY $20,000 FOR A 14 YEAR OLD CAR!!! When we went with the financier, he gave us the contract and it was a pleasure making small talk with such a good willed person. Friday 21st of February, 2014 During my work hours, I received a call from the financier that I was approved by Wells Fargo, but that I needed proof of income and two references. I said ok and that I would get to it when I could . Friday 21st of February, 2014 Once I got home from work, we received a letter from a credit union that we were rejected from the loan we applied for because the “value of the collateral was insufficient.” This made us wary and we did some research online to see what that meant. Saturday 22nd of February, 2014 Rafael called me during my work hours and told me that the financier was asking for proof of income and references. I said ok and that I would get to it whenever I could, possibly by next Friday. He told me that I should take a picture of the pay stubs and emailed them in. I said, “I’ll see.” I asked him about the letter from the credit union and told me not to worry about it and that the financier could do a better job explaining. Monday 24th, 2014 The financier called me at work around 2 pm and asked if I could bring in the proof of income. I said I’ll take it over on Tuesday. Tuesday February 25th, 2014 I took my pay stub and information for 1 reference. Here’s where everything went down the drain. The financier was telling me that I got a better deal than what I was seeking. He needed me and my wife to sign a new contract and we needed proof of income and the references though. I asked if I “had to sign” the contract and he gave me the “run around” and didn’t quite tell me yes or no. I told him about the letter from the credit union and he told me not to worry about it because a bigger better bank took the loan. He then told me that I would receive a letter from Norm Reeves about canceling the contract, but to ignore it because I was approved already. I told him that I was kind of concerned that a credit union wouldn’t take the loan and I asked him to call Rafael to explain this to me. I wanted to make Rafael work for his commission, of course. When Rafael came over, I told him about the letter from the credit union once again. I told him my concerns with the car, and that it would devaluate too quickly, and that I was considering buying another car from him. From this point, he went on a 20-30 minute rant. These are some points he touched on (and his speech was extremely down putting and cynical): 1. The car is valued at a fair price, just check out Kelley’s Blue Book 2. The car got approved for a 5.99% and it’s a 14 year old car, that means it’s worth it 3. Who brain washed you into not buying the car? A person or a bank? 4. Different banks have different ways of appraising things 5. YOU HAVE TO SIGN THE CONTRACT BECAUSE YOU WERE APPROVED, I USED TO BE A FINANCIER, I KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT 6. There are two approvals, one of which is what you signed for 7. “I’m not telling you this as a sales person, I’m telling you this with my hand on my heart” the car is worth it 8. “A week ago you were here very happy with the car, and now this?” 9. He showed me a deal he got for an Accord that he bought for his child at 10.99% (saying that the S2000 was more valuable) To this I replied, I don’t care what anyone tells me how much a car is worth, if I want to pay $20,000 for a car I’ll pay that, if not then I won’t. I spoke to my credit union and they wouldn’t even consider the loan. I don’t have to sign anything, the contract is different. There is actually only one approval, and I don’t want it. I know you’re telling me this because you want to sell the car, but I have to take care of myself first. After all that crap I had to sit through, the financier came over. I told him straight out “I don’t want the car. If you were the only person I spoke to, you would have convinced me, but this guy killed it.” Then the sales manager, Ryan came over and asked me if I had been told to bring my wife over to sign the contract. He gave me a copy of the 5 month warranty that came with the car that I didn’t get during the signing of the contract. He asked me when my wife and I could sign the contract. He asked me if I could sign my half right then and there and have my wife sign it at a later time. To which I responded, I won’t sign anything and my wife and I can make it here maybe by Friday. Ryan left and the financier started talking to me. I said I had to go and I walked out. As I was walking towards the front lobby door, the financier came after me and told me to wait for a bit, that his boss was talking to a financer and he was making a deal as we spoke. He asked me to initial a paper where Ryan had recalculated my wife’s and my income. I didn’t initial anything and I told the financier to tell his boss to “go screw himself.” Wednesday 26th, 2014 We received the cancellation letter from Norm Reeves, dated the 24th of February and signed by Bayas. As soon as my wife got home from work, we drove to the Honda dealer, per the contract’s request. We went into the financier’s office and gave him the letter and told him we didn’t want the car. He said that he couldn’t deal with the letter and if we wanted to return the car we had to speak to the sales manager. We told him that we wanted him to call the sales manager to meet us in the office we were in. The financier came back and told us that the sales manager was on the other side of the dealer and that he couldn’t come. So, my wife and I went over to the other side and the financier followed. He told us to grab a chair and that he would talk to Ryan. He came back and told us that Ryan didn’t have to talk to us because there wasn’t anything to talk about because Ryan had closed the deal on February 25th, 2014 as I was walking out of the building. I told him that he was wrong, that we received the letter and that it wasn’t true what he was told by Ryan. At this point we saw where Ryan was at and we decided to go and talk to him. At this point the financier followed us again and spoke to Ryan and I just decided to step in and speak to Ryan. I told him “here’s the letter, I have my copy and here are the keys. The car is out there and I’m done with this.” At this point the sales manager asked me if the financier had told me about the letter, I told him yes but that it was a cancellation letter that held true no matter what he told me. Then, with a sarcastic and ridiculing tone, he asked me “who got you mad, buddy? Why don’t you like the car anymore?” I took a picture of the contract and the keys lying on Ryan’s table where he was working, in order to prove that I had informed them about leaving the car. My wife and I stormed out because there was nobody that was willing to do things the right way. I did not receive my “cash deposit” either. Wednesday 26th, 2014 I received two calls from “Mike” the finance director about two hours apart. He left me a voicemail asking me if he could do anything and to call him back because I had to sign a paper. Thursday 27th, 2014 I called “Mike” at 12:51 p.m. He asked me what had happened, so I told him. I told him that he could only do one thing for me, and that was to return my deposit. He tried convincing me once again asking if he could lower the car’s value or the interest to help me buy the car. I told him that they did not have my business anymore, so we set an appointment for Friday February 28th, 2014 between the hours of 4 and 5 p.m. Friday 28th, 2014 We got our deposit back after speaking two more people for about 10-15 minutes each. And still, they didn’t know when my business with them was over. More
My experience with Susanna Yim at Norm Reeves Honda has been nothing but fantastic and exemplary. This was not the easiest to put together (or so I thought) until I was contacted by Susanna. I was cosignin been nothing but fantastic and exemplary. This was not the easiest to put together (or so I thought) until I was contacted by Susanna. I was cosigning for a new Honda Civic for my daughter who lives in So Cal. I live in Southwest Florida. From the very outset Susanna listened to our needs and executed quickly. The paperwork got to me and all was in order as agreed. If this long distance experience went this well with me I can only imagine how easy and professional Susanna handles her local business. To the owner and managers at Norm Reeves my congrats to you and your wonderful sales rep. Susanna. Thanks again, Dan More
