end of lease on a vehicle that was NOT a Toyota What I am about to write here is an interesting story that I would encourage anyone that drives a vehicle to read, and after you read this, I would st What I am about to write here is an interesting story that I would encourage anyone that drives a vehicle to read, and after you read this, I would strongly encourage you to copy ad paste this into an email to your friends, family and colleagues. My wife and I were at the end of our lease on a 2014 Mazda vehicle. We are relatively new to the leasing world, and this was our second lease with Mazda. About 3+ weeks before the lease was about to expire, we went to the Mazda dealership whom we leased the vehicle from. We learned that the vehicle had over $3200.00 in "equity", HOWEVER, that equity, could ONLY be used on another Mazda lease. Besides NOT wanting another Mazda vehicle, we were in a unique situation where our oldest son left a vehicle behind, due to a lengthy assignment overseas. He wanted to keep his vehicle and insisted that his mother drive it (she puts very little miles on a vehicle in a year), plus we are able to save a monthly loan/lease payment, which was very timely as my wife quite unexpectedly quit her job and retired. So the planets if you will aligned at the right time - end of lease, free vehicle to drive, cost savings as a result of retirement. What dealers do NOT tell you is that not only will you be charged a fee at the end, if you have any equity and don't lease another vehicle you forfeit that cash equity position. That is pure B.S....! Additionally, the folks at Mazda had two opportunities to sell/ lease to us a 3rd time, but never followed through on the car she wanted. We have dealt with CarMax in the past on two other vehicles for our son, due to his overseas "assignments". The deals went smooth and we actually made a small amount of money (very small - but different circumstances). Our situation on this car was different. So we went to CarMax and received a quote. As you know, CarMax's mantra is NO HAGGLING, so the price is what they quote. That is NOT what we were expecting from the car. I thought about selling it ourselves, and looked at identical Mazda's on the internet. We went to a local dealership (on a Sunday so we wouldn't be hassled) who listed the exact same Mazda as ours, they were asking nearly $5,000.00 more than what we even wanted, AND the vehicle had more miles....! I really did not want to go through all the Craigs list crazy's nor do I want to wait around for people who say they will stop by and don't, MORE IMPORTANTLY , I simply ""refuse"" to turn in a vehicle that was in mint condition, with low mileage, that the dealer could make probably $8,000.00+ on and I lose the equity - that in of itself is UNACCEPTABLE...! Sooooo.... I started to look on the internet and found that Auto Trader had a similar program- you fill out a bunch of questions and submit, AutoTrader sends to local dealers and they give you a price, but of course they also want to see the vehicle. We visited two other dealers and ended up at Newark Toyota world. To be quite honest, I had NO IDEA they even bought good, clean used vehicles, let alone a leased vehicle as I thought, that they were in the business of selling Toyota's only, or the trade ins they get for Toyota's. At Toyota, we met with Anthony Harris. WOW - was I ever impressed. Anthony worked with us the entire time, no pressure and was extremely helpful. He came back with a price that was still NOT what we were looking for, and I gave him my bottom line number. When he asked us, I was honest, and said that if I did not get the bottom line number, from Newark Toyota world or whomever, we would simply ask for a lease extension and I'd sell it myself (not desirable, but I'm not taking $3k in the shorts). When Anthony said, " let me take it to my manager", I thought, here we go, just like car buying before the internet. Anthony came back in under a minute and gave us what we asked for. Who knows, maybe I could of asked for more, but we are not greedy people, and I ONLY WANTED what was fair. There are THREE TAKE AWAY's here for ANYONE reading this post, number 3, is not something directly related to this story but is... 1) CarMax is NOT the only dealer you can deal with when trying to sell a car. I would encourage anyone in a similar position to try this, where you CAN haggle the final price - CarMax does not. 2) I would HIGHLY encourage everyone to try Auto Trader's program, and if you are so compelled, just go to Newark Toyota World and see what they have to say 3) Although I have not had a chance to research what Anthony told us, but believe the principle and concept to be true - Toyota, is one of the ONLY manufacturers that DOES give you the cash value of the cars equity at the end of the lease even if you DON'T buy /lease another Toyota. This is HUGE for my wife and I, because we will need another car for my wife when my son returns stateside, and I will not hesitate for one second to lease a Toyota for just this reason. I sure hope that this posting helps some other poor lost soul. Overall, I would rate our experience at Newark Toyota world 7 stars, with 5 being the highest. More

BEST SERVICE ADVISORS IN THE AREA Dacia Letts, CHerald GEphrata and Henry Oswald were the Service Advisors that assisted me. They were some of the most professional and courteous Advis Dacia Letts, CHerald GEphrata and Henry Oswald were the Service Advisors that assisted me. They were some of the most professional and courteous Advisors I have ever came across. They kept me updated throughout the entire process. When the completion time changed due to some warranty repair issues found during my 25K Mile Service I was even offered a shuttle service to make it more convenient for me. Even though I wound up not using the shuttle service, their driver did come over and speak with me. He was a very polite man and even offered me a ride just up the street to the wawa if I wanted something while waiting. I also had the opportunity to speak with the front desk/rental people and was very impressed with how professional they were. I think the person running the department was Catelin and the front desk person I spoke with was Debby. Both women carried themselves with a great sense of pride in customer satisfaction. When it came time to pick my vehicle up I spoke with Wesley and Colleen. The pick up process was quick and effortless. One of the lot attendants, Zach, was even courteous enough to walk me out front to my car to make sure it was washed prior to pick up. Truly exceptional service experience all around from start to finish. The management at Newark ToyotaWorld should be very proud of their team of associates. They are the glue that holds that place together. The very foundation to a great business is quality customer service, and these associates have proved to be the very bricks of that foundation. I would recommend this place to any Toyota owner in the area. Sometimes it may take a little longer for service, but Quality Service takes time and cannot be rushed. I'd much rather take my car here again and wait a little longer than to take it to some pep boys or jiffy lube and get low quality rush job performed on my car. I think that says it all, thank you again to the Advisors whow helped me, and I hope this gets back to them so they know that their good work is not going unnoticed. - James B. More
