I had an initial bad experience with Napleton Kia – Elmhurst couple years ago (of bait and switch) which they worked to rectify, so I thought I would try them again for a used car for my daughter. But what a mistake, it was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a dealership or any business for that matter. They told me that the car was available right before I headed over (I confirmed due to my initial bad experience with them), its an hour drive for me, and salesperson was waiting with key in hand. So far so good. He pulled the car out, and we spent over 15 mins inspecting the car (body, engine, etc.), and just as I was getting ready for the test drive, a different salesperson or manager comes and yells at my salesperson on where the keys are for the 2016 Kia, my salesperson says the car is here, and right in front of me the other guy said ‘I just sold the car to my friend’ and simply (rather rudely) takes the keys away. I am left standing cold, no apologies or anything. I believe this was a bait and switch tactic, there are many complaints about this from before, I had same thing happen to me couple years ago at this same place, & my neighbor went through the same experience with this dealership and ended up going with Carvana. The sales manager instead of apologizing defended what happened and said that he has no control over this and that this happens at all dealerships (which I disagree with), and then tried to offer a totally different style of used car, showing absolutely no integrity or respect for my time or the inconvenience we went through (with a whole evening wasted for both myself & my daughter). There are measures they can take to prevent this from happening, such as pulling the key for a pending sale, it’s not rocket science. I am not that young and have bought from dealerships before, never have I had an experience like this. They seem to employ very cheap and deceptive bait and switch tactics to get customers in that is simply deplorable and unacceptable, they are further tarnishing the name of Napleton (which by the way just last year came out of a lawsuit filed by the FTC and the State of IL on deceptive and discriminatory practices). Their ownership and upper management need to take note, how you treat your customer matters, and having basic integrity and good business ethics matters. I usually never write such long reviews, and have never filed a complaint to BBB, but this last experience compels me to do so. Other people should not have to go through what I went through. I would not recommend or trust them for your car buying needs, save your time and energy by going to a different place, there are many options in the Chicagoland area. Update: Napleton corporate called few day later and wanted to rectify what happened. Unfortunately this came too late, I already bought a car for my daughter from another dealership (we had an excellent experience there, where we felt valued and respected). Napleton promised to work on improving their culture and prevent such incidents from happening again. I appreciate Napleton for reaching out and trying hard to rectify, so changing to 3 stars. I really hope they follow through with their promises, but only time will tell. I will need to experience the change firsthand to be fully convinced. More
