When I bought my used car and came to pick it up there was bird crap in several places, so they clearly didn't "detail" the car. They brought the car back in the clean it off and they removed one of the spots of bird crap. Cleary no pride in their work. The rear wiper blade was missing. I had to point that out for a second time. They never replaced the front turn signal light bulb either. These are minor issues but show that the culture is very poor. It turns out I probably bought a lemon. The car dies within 6 weeks. We brought it in and was told there was almost no oil in the car. Did they never change the oil?? I do not know, but I think the car is burning oil. Every person I dealt with in service tried to pass the buck or wouldn't return calls. I don't see the names of the employees below except my sales person otherwise I would rate them too. The car is a Hyundai so I just decided to take it to the Hyundai dealer next door and that experience was just as bad. McGrath - you need to change the culture at your city locations. No one cares and no one wants to help. More
I was pleasantly surprised by the purchase negotiations for my new Accord Hybrid Touring sedan. I expected some difference between the dealer and myself as to what would be a reasonable price, and the init for my new Accord Hybrid Touring sedan. I expected some difference between the dealer and myself as to what would be a reasonable price, and the initial offer and counter offer were indeed a couple of thousand dollars apart. But what did surprise me was how the negotiations proceeded: Absolutely no hard sell tactics; no bad-mouthing my trade-in to talk down its value; no exaggerated claims about recent sales of identical cars for ridiculously high prices etc. The salesman, Ray Romo, was good-natured and decent throughout. I had told him that I generally buy a new car every two years, but was delayed this time due to Covid supply chain issues and reduced driving time. I had no bargaining purpose in mind when I mentioned this, but it ended up saving some needless haggling when Ray’s manager suggested he could try to sell me an extended maintenance warranty. Ray responded that there would not be much point in pushing that due to my habit of trading in my cars while they were still under the original free maintenance plan. My only criticism (why 4 stars instead of five) applies not to the sales personnel, but to the prices dealerships are requiring for cars these days. But even though they ask what I believe is about a thousand dollars more than what is reasonable, McGrath more than makes up for it, at least for now, with a 3.9 percent interest rate on a five year purchase. Toyota (my alternative option) doesn’t do as well on a Camry purchase, and they have no deals at all on new, 2024 Camry hybrid financing. If I bought such a Camry instead of the Accord and paid Toyota’s typical asking rate (8 percent with good credit), my monthly payment for a similar purchase price would be about $75 more per month. For 60 months, that’s $4500. Seems like there’s something to the ad slogan: “If you do the math, you’ll choose McGrath.” Honda, that is. More
