OUR HISTORY Walt DeBoer founded Lithia Motors in 1946 as a Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge dealership in Ashland, Oregon. Following Walt’s death in 1968, Walt’s son Sid along with Dick Heimann, grew the business to include 5 stores and 19 franchises in Southern Oregon. In December 1996, this collection of dealerships was transformed into Lithia Motors, Inc., a publicly traded company (NYSE stock symbol-LAD). We envisioned a company that would continuously grow, provide great customer service, and opportunities for employees. TODAY Lithia is one of America’s largest automotive retailers featuring most domestic and import franchises. Our stores serve urban and rural populations throughout the Western and Midwest United States. We are focused on providing customers with an honest and simpler buying and service experience. We are giving customers straightforward information so that they can make confident decisions. We believe that our local communities are our lifeblood. While I apologize for the inconvenience (especially coming to Reno from outside the area) the company policy of at least 24 hours for a diagnosis appointment exists to give the technician ample time to source problems without the pressure of knowing a customer is in the lounge wanting to leave in as little time as necessary. When it comes to delivering quality service we err on the side of customer safety, especially when it comes to a drivability issue. I listened to the call you placed when scheduling the appointment to ensure you were made aware of the policy, and it was properly explained. I was a naive buyer determining the Palisades was the vehicle I was looking for to drive to New Hampshire to our new home and drive our grandkids around. Reno Lythia decided to increase the price 15k above manufacturing, which I learned later is controversial with central companies, and the Carson City dealership did less than half that. Chris Clark was not forthcoming and tried to charge me $2k for a trailer hitch, and Tom Cherry promised me he would call me when parts are in"at cost": another false hood. So I learned a lesson; I should have walked away and never bought when I was exhausted from teleurgent care shifts (for the VA). Normally I would walk out but liked the car. But Carson City is more forthright; I am taking my maintenance to them and will have them install the hitch for 700 or something. Since I am well connected to Reno with family and friends, I am driving business to CC, given this is a great car. I will cost Reno much more than the 7k or so and still have a home in Lake Tahoe to stay in touch with family and friends frequently. I am still working full-time in medicine with Reno contacts. So, I overpaid 7k or so and should have gone to another dealer. Toyota Highlander, by the way, does not increase its price my next choice and just one day before bought my son a low milage Tundra. And, for the record, I have bought from Lithia for decades: Audi and Subaru. Wonder what central Lithia thinks about price gouging. I will send them a complaint. Nonetheless, thanks for reaching out, and several of the employees were exceptional—several young ladies whose names I have forgotten and Dave the numbers guy. And I do love the car.
