On 01/27/2024, I took my 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross in for the first 1,000 mile oil change. Yeah, I'm old school. Instead of seeing a real service advisor, I was shuffled to a teenager who insisted that I for the first 1,000 mile oil change. Yeah, I'm old school. Instead of seeing a real service advisor, I was shuffled to a teenager who insisted that I didn't need and oil change until 10,000 miles. Now anyone who owns a Toyota knows (or should know) that in order for them, or for that matter any car, to last a very long time, you need to keep up with maintenance. Anyone who buys that quick Persian rug about oil lasting 10,000 miles is being foolish. I explained that as the customer and Koon's providing service, they are bond to perform service as the customer wishes. They may "advise" a customer, but the customer has the final word. In addition, I had to argue that the tires DID NOT need rotation nor did the battery need to be checked. I check my own fluids, battery, air pressure, etc. BTW, modern radial tires kept at the correct pressure DO NOT need rotation. This is a scam to make a few more bucks. Upon completion of the work, I was told that the brakes were working fine. Gee, thanks, I was really worried about that. This is the second time that I have run into this situation at Koon's. The first time was in October when I took my son's 2023 Corolla Hatchback in for it's first 1,000 mile oil change. In that instance, I had to argue with two teenagers. I should note that I perform my own service work. Any heavy lifting I leave up to the dealer. In these cases I only took it into the dealer because the first 24,000 mi./2 yr. servicing is on Toyota's dime. I know why a dealer operates like this. A minimum wage teenager with little or no training or knowledge is much less expensive than a trained, experienced and knowledgeable service advisor. When I take my car to a dealer, even for only minor servicing, I may have questions or concerns that only a real service advisor can answer. I will return to Koon's for the 5,000 mile oil change. But if this happens again, I shall take my business elsewhere. More
