Doug, It’s disappointing to read your feedback and certainly disappointing to learn we’ll be losing you as a customer. There are several things I hope to clarify. The first being that when you return your lease, we here at Herb Chambers Honda in Boston don’t assess any damage done to the vehicle. That is done by Honda Corporate and not something we here at the dealership have a hand in. When you returned your lease, back in April, we checked the car in and then Honda Corporate takes your vehicle back to auction. From there, the Honda Corporate team assesses your vehicle and sends you any subsequent bills for damage done. Honda Corporate’s original bill was for $1,245.78, but they significantly reduced that and only charged you for the left rear wheel which had significant damage. They didn’t charge you for the 4-5 inch scratch on the left rear door, they didn’t charge you for the damage done to the front bumper cover and the detailed list goes on. I understand that receiving a bill is never something to look forward to, but to say we should claim any responsibly for your usage is concerning. We work with all of our customers to try and make leasing and the lease return experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible, but we can’t be responsible for all of the damage done while in your ownership. Perhaps you can explain and account for the 4 months between the day I dropped off my old lease (April 1) and the day it was actually inspected (August 4). 4 months the car was out of my hands before anyone looked at it. I am sorry you felt no responsibility to even consider my complaint on the phone, which merely underscores the lack of regard I can only assume you have for your customers. How shortsighted to not even consider what might have gone wrong in this case and try to be sympathetic and accommodating, rather than immediately arguing, shutting me down and taking an accusatory tone, and lose the value of my continued business and that of my family and friends. I will shortly be filing a letter of complaint with Honda Finance's legal department (happy to send you a copy), and considering my next steps in settling this bill of surprise. Doug Haslam
