He was right on target with my expectations so it was a good experience. More

Brian Dean took my car and when the engine was out Brian called to tell me that the tech that was working on my car used an impact drill on my aluminum block and cross-threaded the bolt on the way out. I wasn't expecting that I would have to pay for the bolt to be extracted since their tech was the one the screwed up my engine and potentially destroyed my entire block! He told me that I would have to pay for it to be extracted and re-threaded. I asked how much and he said he'd talk to his tech and call me back. Keep in mind that my block is now destroyed and I will never be able to replace my starter or my transmission if this is not fixed! He called me back and said, "it's going to be okay, you don't have to worry about it, and we'll be able to get the bolt out." I asked, "so it's good then?" He said, "yes it's going to be okay, we'll be able to remove the bolt and re-thread the hole, we'll take care of it." So naturally, I'm thinking, well that's awesome! What service, these guys are willing to take responsibility for their mistake and fix it without a charge, great! He asked me "since the engine is out, do you want us to do the spark plugs while it's out?" I said, "no I think it'll be fine they don't need to be changed right now." I thought about it and thought, well since Brian's willing to fix that bolt hole issue, I'll go ahead and get the plugs changed now. That'll give them some business on top of the service and that'll be like my "Thanks for taking such great care of me!" Fast-forward four days later... So I'm on my way to pick it up. I ask how much will it be, and he says $317!!!!! I was like, xxx!?!!? So then I asked, "how is it that high? I only wanted the plugs changed." He said, "well yeah and the bolt extraction." I said, "Brian, I said go ahead and do the plugs because you made it sound like I wouldn't have to pay for the bolt extraction since it was your techs fault." He said, "no I told you that it would cost up to two hours labor, or could potentially be a new block and that I said just do it." (He NEVER said this) First things first. I NEVER say "Just do it" on things like that, second he never said how many hours he would charge me because my follow up response would have NEVER been "just do it", it would have been, "how much is labor per hour?" followed by, "wait, you said the block might need to be replaced? No way, if your guy cannot safely get the bolt out, then don't mess with it, and abort the recall." I would have NEVER said to just do it, especially if the risk was that severe. For one thing, I live paycheck to paycheck BARELY, for another thing, this is my DD and I have no other option for a car, if this car dies I am screwed! Secondly, I would never blindly agree to a service not knowing exactly how much it would be BEFORE saying yes!" Now, I have no money for food, until payday. Thanks Brian! Take my advice, go to Subaru and let the master techs there work on your 86 not where some xxxxxxx will use a 1300ft/lb impact drill on your aluminum block! Yeah, Brian told me that is what the tech was using on my block, that's how I know. More
