Lease Buyout Horror Show A 30-minute transaction turned into four hours and the quoted payment turned out to be $150 under what it really was. I went in after having had a A 30-minute transaction turned into four hours and the quoted payment turned out to be $150 under what it really was. I went in after having had at least two telephone conversations with Jim Cord regarding the lease buyout of my Tiguan. During one of them, I had the original contract in front of me and when he asked for the residual I gave him the number ($23K-something). I read it right off the contract and he told me what the monthly payment would be which was, as I recall, $315.00. When I went in (during the Covid 19 pandemic I might add), I learned, after having sat around for about an hour, that the payment would actually be over $100 more than what he said; this was based on the fact that somehow the residual was not transcribed correctly. After some back and forth, he invited me to speak with the manager who was, I believe, Kyle. I was quite angry, not only because I felt like I'd been played with some bait-and-switch tactic, but also because I had already sat around for what was now two hours. Note that I did not want to be inside that dealership at all because of the virus and here I was being forced to hang around for this amount of time. Plus, it was hot outside and there was nowhere to sit without sweating. Long story short, I left and ran some errands, returned, and the contract was STILL not ready, so I sat around some more and finally was able to sign the thing and leave. I arrived at the appointed time, which was noon, and when I left I made a point to look at the clock in the car: it was 4:01 P.M. I'm getting angry again just thinking about the whole episode. I didn't want to drive all the way into Oakland as I had things that needed doing, but now I deeply regret not having done so. I have owned Volkswagens for a long, long time. I had a '65 bug (red), a van (blue), a Jetta, two Passats and now the Tiguan. I have also owned a Porsche (914-6) –– point being, I have a history with German cars. But I am so disgusted with this whole episode that I have considered trading in the Tiguan and getting a Lexus just so I don't have to deal with Volkswagen any longer. And now that I think of it, I was considering getting the hybrid when it comes out in 2021, but I understand from Jim that there is not, and never has been, a hybrid in the works. If Volkswagen wants to make this right with me, the company can give me the monthly payment originally quoted. It is the right thing to do, but we certainly don't have an abundance of that any more.
