Skip this dealer if you expect to be treated with an honest sale price. A good friend recommended this dealer because I needed to buy a car for my 80 year old mom. Her car was totaled, by no fault of honest sale price. A good friend recommended this dealer because I needed to buy a car for my 80 year old mom. Her car was totaled, by no fault of her own. So I needed to find a car quickly. My friend told to speak with Rob Smith, who is a manager. I went there, talked about the cars, options, colors, prices, etc. I decided to go get my mother so she could sit in the model I picked out. She’s on oxygen, so getting out can be exhausting. Plus she’s about 10 miles away and in traffic. She loved the car and she picked out a color. Rob said he had that color coming, in about a week. I agreed to give them a $1,000 deposit and she would buy the car with her insurance settlement. The sales guy brought over a piece of paper with the total and it was about $2,500 more than I expected. I had already calculated the tax, license, and advertised dealer fee, so I knew about what the total should be. I asked to see the price break down and they had added in a $2,500 market adjustment profit fee. Sneaky, sneaky. Trying to take advantage of an 80 year old woman on social security. They should be ashamed. True dishonest business practice. I’ll be reporting this to Toyota’s regional manager too. At no time when they were sharing MSRP’s of available vehicles did they tell me there would be a $2,500 market adjustment (profit) added on. If they would have, I would have said thanks for your time and left. I wouldn’t have wasted time going to get my mom. We got up and walked out. They tried to stop me but I don’t do business like that. They make a lot of Toyota’s, so there are more dealers to buy from. I had already spoken with Autonation Toyota in a Douglasville and they didn’t have a market adjustment fee. They are farther away and I wanted to support a local dealer. But no way would I ever pay over sticker for a mass produced car. Never. Even the dealer fee is questionable. Rob said Autonation has a $3,500 mark up, which is not true. There’s no reason to pay a market adjustment fee on a mass production car that’s easily found. In just the Atlanta area, I found 4 Toyota dealers who aren’t charging market fees for Corolla’s. Do your homework. More
