CarMax of Irvine, CA. I went in with my step daughter on CarMax of Irvine, CA. I went in with my step daughter on Saturday 1-4-14, she purchased a ford explorer for $10,900 she paid the down payment in CASH CarMax of Irvine, CA. I went in with my step daughter on Saturday 1-4-14, she purchased a ford explorer for $10,900 she paid the down payment in CASH, Dave the sales person said they use "Edmunds" in lieu of "Kelly Blue Book", when we went to the credit union to finance the ford, they said the Kelly blue book rated the explorer for $8,000 (they overpriced the vehicle by $2,900). So we took it back to CarMax the next day. We worked with Steve Shelley with the return process: they returned her down payment in the form of a wire transfer check from "Well Fargo". I explained my concern more than once on the fact that we paid CASH and we did not want a check that the bank would hold for 5 to 7 days and Steve assured (promised) me that I could deposit the wire transfer into my account that day and the money would be in my account the next day!! Not so, my bank wants to put a hold on it for 7 DAYS!!, I called CarMax and talked to the manager (of the day) Kim and she said that it's a Liability for them to give cash back to a customer (even though I paid in cash) and they always return in the form of a wire transfer. Now they have tied my hands behind my back and my daughter can't get a vehicle until this check clears and if it doesn't then the saga will continue!!!This is utterly ridicules!!! CARMAX employees are liars, cheats and deceitful!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CARMAX........ More
I went to the Carmax in Irvine Ca and it has been the worst experience I've ever had. They all lie there to get your business. I bought a 2005 ford explorer it looked and sounded great at the dealer I dr worst experience I've ever had. They all lie there to get your business. I bought a 2005 ford explorer it looked and sounded great at the dealer I drove it home and not too long after it started idling funny and shifting funny then I found out they had over priced it by $3,000 I returned it within the "5 day money back guaranteed" time frame. Now I paid cash for the down and they gave me a piece of paper back when I returned the car. It's not a check so I can't cash it I have to deposite it but I don't have a bank. And Carmax says that there's nothing they can do which seemed to be there most famous line they used in my experience. So they took my money and are making it impossible to get it back. DO NOT USE CARMAX ITS A SCAM THEY JUST RIP YOU OFF AND SELL YOU CRAPPY CARS!!! More

I was interested in selling my car to carmax. I had a recommendation from a local dealership that carmax would give me the best price on my car. I called carmax and went over my car information, year, ma recommendation from a local dealership that carmax would give me the best price on my car. I called carmax and went over my car information, year, make, model, miles, etc. they told me over the phone that they would buy my car for $15,000 to $16,000. They told me to bring my car in for a more in depth appraisal, so we drove over 2 hours to the closest carmax. We get there, they tell us the "in depth" appraisal would take about 45 minutes. Thinking this would involve going over every detail of our vehicle, they asked us about 5 questions, walked around the car, opened the door and peeked inside for about 5 seconds, drove the car around the lot, and that was the end of the appraisal. They then tell us they will only give us $12,000 and that was the absolute most. After everything over the phone, having us drive that far, I was quite frustrated. So I tried talking to one of the managers and the sales woman, and they were both so rude about not raising the price. I quote them "do you see the signs around our dealership? They say absolutely no haggling, this is our final offer. If that doesn't work for you, we can get you your keys back and send you on your way." We decided due to my husband being military and getting ready to deploy, we just wanted to get the car off our hands so we decided against our best judgement to sell it to them anyways. We started our paper work and I also told them prior to our appointment that we didn't have our title and they told us that was fine, they have certain things they can do to get around that until we can send them the title. Then once we started the paper work to sell them the car and get our money, they told us we HAD to have our title and if we wanted, we could leave our car there, drive ALL the way back home, grab the title and come ALL the way back, WITH 3 SMALL CHILDREN! Needless to say I was infuriated by that point and I gladly took my keys, my car, and left. I've heard it's somewhat common with them to do things like this. I just wanted others to read this to be a warning sign before doing business with them. Never again. More
Worst car buying experience I've ever had. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. The car we purchased had 30,000 miles on it and was in the shop more in the first 30 days than we got to drive it. When w ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. The car we purchased had 30,000 miles on it and was in the shop more in the first 30 days than we got to drive it. When we complained about the two major problems they told us they had customers waiting and refused to talk to us about alternatives. We called the General Manager seven times before we received a return phone call and the sales person we worked with told us he didn't have time to talk to us because he had other customers waiting. They do not value their customers and would rather sell them crap cars and ignore their complaints (there's always another sucker out there waiting to be screwed!) BE WARY AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. More
Around September 11 2013 I bought a truck from CARMAX. I put a $6,787 deposit and took the truck. 4-5 days later I received a phone call from the sales agent telling me they needed a copy of my driver licen put a $6,787 deposit and took the truck. 4-5 days later I received a phone call from the sales agent telling me they needed a copy of my driver license. I told her I was disabled and did not have a driver license. She said I had to bring the truck back or get a driver license. I did some checking and called the Virginia Dealer board. Jeff Sikes from the VA dealer board said that anyone disabled even a blind person can get a loan and buy a car. I called CarMax and told this to them and they still said I had to bring the truck back. After returning the truck the sales manager Dave said that the finance company CARMAX auto finance uses the driver license as ID. I told him I have a retired Military ID, US passport and State issued ID. Dave said that won’t work that you have to have a driver license. When I told him what Jeff Sikes from the Virginia Dealer board said about a blind person can buy a car Dave said YES if you are disabled without a driver license they will make an exception and sell you the car. I told Dave I was disabled without a Driver license and had told my sales person Wanda this. Dave said his sales people made a mistake and thought you gave us a driver license on the first day. Dave then said “Your handicap?” I said YES I am and the paperwork I filled out shows my income comes from Social security disability and Veterans Disability. Dave then asks “what is your disability?” I said I didn’t feel comfortable discussing that with him in public. He said “well you bought it up so what is your disability?” I said all you need to know is that I am disabled and do not have a license. I left the CarMax premises. I called CarMax relations and Sharron said she would have the General Manager of that CarMax call me. The general manager calls and was very rude. She said “Dave has been with us 17 years I am surprised he said that to you. I am sorry you feel that way and we are not selling you the truck because we already sent it though as you the primary driver once and we are not sending it though again.” Sharron from CarMax relations then called me back and said she also spoke to the General Manager and the general manager said they can’t run it though again because they already ran it though CarMax auto finance and it would give a red flag by the personal if they ran it again and changed me from the primary driver without a Driver license. I called CarMax Auto finance. They said all CarMax had to do would be to call them and explain my situation and it would NOT have thrown up a RED flag and that she would call be back in a few days after she looked into it. As of today no one else has called me. I spent four years in Iraq and have multiple injuries at 35 years old. I suffer from Seizures, black outs, prosthetic right eye and other issues. This is how I got treated. I pride myself on honesty. Carmax made the mistake and put in the paperwork as me the primary driver because they thought I gave them a driver license when it was a State ID. Instead of apologizing and making it right they decided they don’t make mistakes and did this to me. Question for carmax. Do you ever make mistakes? What do you do when you make a mistake? You lie and twist it around and blame the costumer for being disabled. Four years in Iraq defending your way of life for you to treat someone like this. If there was a time you should have ever admitted you made a mistake it should have been this time. More
Guys! don't waste you time to go to carmax. it sucks! The price they offer you is almost half of the price of the value of your car. They had the same car as mine for 15k. and they offered me 6k... ridic The price they offer you is almost half of the price of the value of your car. I purchased a car from carmax in 2009. I still had about 30k miles on the manufacturers warranty. I was asked if I wanted an extended warranty for 60k. My thought is that I could be covered out to at least 30k miles on the manufacturers warranty. I was asked if I wanted an extended warranty for 60k. My thought is that I could be covered out to at least 100k. Well that was not the case. The extended warranty did not start with my manufacturer's warranty ended but from the date I purchased the car. So I purchased a 60k warranty and did not need it. Now when I needed it I took the car to the dealer and found my warranty is not valid and I am stuck with $3000 dollars in repairs. Thanks Carmax.....I hope you enjoy the commission you received from me. More

On 1/26/2013 my wife and I were in the market for a new to us vehicle. We were planning on purchasing later this year but decided to go look and test drive a few vehicles. My wife was heart set on gettin to us vehicle. We were planning on purchasing later this year but decided to go look and test drive a few vehicles. My wife was heart set on getting a Honda civic hybrid with the only stipulation being that it had to have navigation. Unfortunately there were only 4 within 250 miles of Kansas City. Carmax had two, a 2007 and an 2006. There was another local dealer that had a 2012 and a dealer in Lawrence with a 2009 model. I excitedly had a sales representative transfer the 2007 model from Wichita to the location in Merriam. My wife and I went to the other local dealer first to drive the 2012 model. We decided to wait and drive the 2007 model here to compare the cost and mileage and overall cleanliness of the vehicles. We arrived a little late but had been in contact with our sales representative so he was aware. He had stated that the car just had been freshly cleaned and was warming up in the lot for our test drive. The first thing I noticed as soon as I opened the door was the smell. Whether it was an animal or smoker odor, I don't know. When the heat or the A/C was turned up, the smell worsened which is a clear indication that the small has seeped into every crevice and will most likely never go away. This particular example had 66k miles on it, so we were by no means expecting a brand new vehicle. Looking around inside the interior, we noticed that there was absolutely no way this vehicle had been detailed. There was spilled pop, dust, and even feathers (I know weird) in the front seat cup holders. As the sales associate left to copy my drivers license for the test drive, I decided to open the hood. I have been around cars and vehicle maintenance my entire life, so I know what i am looking for and at under the hood. First thing I saw upon opening the hood was that the engine seemed to have a slight misfire and tick. You could see the engine vibrating in the engine mounts even. I took off the top of the air filter box to see what that looked like. To my surprise, it was completely clogged and filthy. The filter was supposed to be a green color like on the top side but was black. I do not know how these items seem to have missed both the Carmax in Wichita and the one in Merriam, especially after the sales person inspected the car upon transfer and had it cleaned. Its like whoever ran it through the quick was just said "eh whatever, its not my car." They provided us with a follow up phone call asking if we were still interested or if we had purchased elsewhere. My wife took the call and explained our issues with the car they had on their lot and informed them that we had indeed purchased from another dealership (the 2012 model). The representative did absolutely nothing about our issue. She just gave a quick I'm sorry and hoped we would return to them for our next vehicle purchase. NO WAY. More
