Not sure how I feel about the Berkshire Hathaway ownership seems they have lost some personal hometown feel. My sales team wen the extra mile to get the truck I wanted at the price point that worked for me. More
Honest, thorough review incoming: After months of research looking across the country, I bought my dream car (used) from Capitol Chevy in March 2023 remotely - sight unseen, all over the phone, FaceT research looking across the country, I bought my dream car (used) from Capitol Chevy in March 2023 remotely - sight unseen, all over the phone, FaceTime, WhatsApp, and email, as well as e-signatures for certain documents. FWIW, my car's great and I'm happy with it (so far), but I'll also talk about the sales and finance people I worked with, and why my experience merits three stars. Sales: TLDR - work with Danny, and don't get upsold. Overall, 4 stars. I worked with Danny Jaimes on the initial deal and had an excellent experience. He negotiated fairly and I felt happy completing the deal with him. He's honest, communicative, and reliable, even after the sale - I would definitely work with him in the future and would easily recommend him. Seek him out if you're looking to do business at this dealership. The car I purchased came several non-optional "treatments" that the dealership built into the purchase price as Dealer-Installed Options. I could NOT purchase the car without also paying for these options. - I was sold a MANDATORY three-year car treatment policy called Zaktek for $1500 - ceramic coatings and PPF, as well as interior care. Despite my asking, they could not 'remove' this option from the car. However, from a detail shop I've taken my car to, I found that the exterior treatment I've paid for might not have been applied, and at the time of writing, it's been about 6 weeks from sale. At best, it might have worn off or been a weak coat, but at worst, it might never have been applied. Reapplications are only available from the home dealership, so if you live far from Capitol Chevy, this is money wasted. - Another salesman, Isaiah, tried to upsell me on an MPP extended warranty. He wouldn't take no for an answer, even mentioning he'd looked me up on LinkedIn to 'know my character', and threatened that my vehicle would develop faults. I thought this was weird and ultimately declined this option given the condition the vehicle was in (very low mileage, recent model year). - They install PPF on the door sills and some of the front fascia - this was a welcome option. - My car came with a CPO warranty, which they also charged as an additional option. I haven't had to use this yet, but will update this review accordingly. It is clear that these Dealer-Install Options represent significant profit to the dealership and that they pad any loss the dealership incurs through sale of the vehicle itself. Finance: TLDR - the bulk of my frustrations. Overall, 2 stars. I worked with Laura from Capitol Chevy's finances division. Given my sale was remote, Laura was initially helpful/responsive while completing the initial forms and wire transfers. However, after the sale was completed, getting the title, registration, etc. proved to be a challenge. Laura was insistent that none of the Dealer-Installed Options could be removed. She also tried to upsell me again on the MPP extended warranty, which I'd already declined. Ick. Communicating with Laura became increasingly difficult after my payments were made - I got the distinct impression that it really was just all about the money. It took a long time to get the required paperwork signed, including an insistence that we needed 'wet' signatures - in a world where we sign job offers and legal documents with DocuSign/e-signature services, this doesn't make sense. As a result, submission of my title and registration was delayed, and despite my messages, I didn't receive these important documents until two weeks after signing for them in-person. As such, I was assessed a hefty late penalty by my county's registration office. Final thoughts: I give Capitol Chevy and their staff some leeway because this sale was done virtually, hence my three star rating. However, if I received this kind of treatment in-person, I would simply have walked out without purchasing. More
