Simple oil change This started out as a simple oil change performed by a reputable dealership. I was originally told that I needed brakes, I didn’t. 175 miles and 4 wee This started out as a simple oil change performed by a reputable dealership. I was originally told that I needed brakes, I didn’t. 175 miles and 4 weeks later I notice oil in my driveway. I was told that it is probably residual oil on the protective covers and that they will be happy to clean it off. (Doesn’t help my driveway). Next thing I know the service guy (I’ll leave Coy’s name out of this) told me that the oil pan seal is broken. Of course it is nothing that the technician could have done to make this happen and it is not covered under warranty (40000 miles). I expressed my concerN to the service manager only to be informed that “these things happen”. Quote was for just under$800. After I contacted another dealer and was informed that this is in fact covered I received a call from the mane that I tried to with hold above. In the meantime I was going to drive this to work to see if cleaning the covers was the problem. I checked th oil myself. Much to my surprise instead of having 1” of oil on the dipstick, I had 6”. Being aware that overfilled lubrication system is worse than having too little oil I did some research. One of the direct affects is damage to the oil pan seal. The aforementioned gentleman called me to let me know that Ford was going to help me by reducing the cost of the repair to $80. I reminded him that it was going to be completely covered. And oh by the way there is a special service memo (SSM) issued by Ford outlining how to drained and check the oil on these engines. He was surprised and told me that no one added oil to my truck. Either I am lying or my truck is producing oil. When I mentioned the service memo, I was told that he would call me back. I’m still waiting. The problem has been resolved (by another dealer) but I am concerned with other problems that can occur from this in the future, and my driveway is still a mess. More
