I did a little research online and heard that they were one of the best dealers in the area for new and used subarus. My friend also came looking to purchase a new car for him as well. We test drove a Legacy 3.6 (which had a doughnut on it) and as soon as we got out of the car he was asked "ok so you want it?" We werent given 5 minutes to even look around the car and inspect it. We checked the trunk and sure enough there was the tire that was completely fixed. We started on the paperwork and everyone was very nice up until this point... It came to be my time to check out the STI that they had parked out front. I previously poked around outside the car but never got in. Started telling them that is what i was interested in and instantly started getting paperwork started. They dont allow you to test drive STI's for whatever reason. I have heard this before from other dealers so i was ok with it. I decided that it was the car i wanted to purchase. Did all of the financial paperwork and signed for the car. 5 days later we were expected to take delivery on the cars and i got a call the day of about 10 AM saying that the Navigation/radio will not work because someone had stolen the chip out of the dash. I accepted that and continued taking ownership of the vehicle. We went to pick up the cars and neither of them had been prepped or washed inside or out! It was disgusting. They could have at least vaccumed the interior and washed the exterior. After i left the dealer i found out about 4 minutes later that the car was horrible misbalanced (or not balanced at all) as i proceeded on the highway after 50 mph the car was darting hard left into the median. I was fighting with the car to keep in straight and on the road. So after this happened i figured i needed to do much more inspecting on the vehicle. The center console was also broken (obvously not checked) and the car came with no stock floor matts. I called imediatly the next day and had to drive another 45 minutes and tolls to bring the car for them to tell me that it was way out of balance (which i clearly already knew) and that they would order the center console and that they were still waiting for the navigation chip. After all of this i decided that the car was not going to last and i didnt want to be stuck with a 32k dollar paperweight. I have to say that there 30 day return policy is spot on. No questions asked. Althought doing that has SCREWED my credit. The second loan that i tried to get 5 days later came with a much higher interest rate and from a different bank because the first bank no longer wanted to deal with me. I meet the second time with Jeff and he was amazing. The most understanding down to earth person in that dealership. With a 30 day return the next vehicle needs to be equal too or greater than the first one. I saw a 2014 wrx on the website that i know i would like and it was about 2k short of my STI that i bought. Jeff instantly got me out on a test drive and i decided that was the car that i wanted to purchase. They also allowed me to purchase aftermarket parts to get my total up to equal of my last car i bought. I was happy with this transaction. Being an out of state resident buying a car in NY and bringing it to CT they say that they are not sure how much registration in CT will be so they charge everyone 242.50 and say that whatever you pay over they will mail you the difference in a check. Well after about 3 voicemails to jackie i finally got a one on one phone call with her yesterday and expressed my extream dissatisfaction that i have waited over a month and still havent recived the difference of the checks. I have a feeling they do this on purpose hoping that no one finds out or cares about this. They still owe me close to 250$ a month after i have had my registration! To end this review i would say this is my worst car buying experience EVER! i will never go back to this dealer and i will NEVER refer them to anyone that i know. Buy at your own risk. More

Howard took care of me and insured me that I would be leaving with a car that day. After many months of shopping and searching for a car I think I landed in the right spot. I recommended him to a couple of my friends who are also looking to get a new car and I hope they go through with it as well. Great experience and if I had to I would do it all over again. More

If you have any such fears you can relax with Bill Kolb and Howard Bonfield. I heard about Kolb Subaru from a friend and checked their website which looked very good for Outbacks. I sent an inquiry and immediately heard from Howard. I had done my homework and was looking to do business in one day if possible. Howard assured me we could make things happen within 2 hours....AND...he was spot on. Let me back up a bit and say I am a business owner myself and relationships in business are most important to me. If the "vibe" is not right I am gone. After several very pleasant phone messages I walked in and was greeted by a very courteous and capable gentleman in the form of Howard. In short time I assessed the vibe as very good. Howard is a very sincere human being first and foremost. He is very straight forward and really LISTENS to what you have to say and what you need. Within 3 hours we came to a very reasonable agreement between a trade in and purchase of a very nice 2013 Outback. I really appreciate Howard giving me a very clear and specific "orientation" to my new vehicle including setting up my blue tooth telephone system. I called Howard a few days later with a minor issue on the car and he immediately set me up in the service department. If you have any hesitation about car sales associates you can relax with Howard....he is THE man. I recommend him to family, friends, and to you. BTW....you will receive letters of welcome from Mr and Mrs Kolb to the new "Kolb Family" and any and all feedback you may have for them. I like that a lot. This is a very good place. Thank you Howard. James Caruso More

The entire atmosphere o The good stuff ------------- From the time that we entered the door, we were greeted in a friendly, yet professional manner. The entire atmosphere of the showroom/office was welcoming -- not because of the appearance (which was not bad at all), but because of the attitudes of the employees. That was big for my wife and I, having dealt with a couple of pushy commissioned sales reps on our previous car/dealer. I wanted to specifically note that Howard was awesome! Very knowledgeable about the vehicle, patient, and accommodating. We went for a pretty fun test drive and were encouraged to push the vehicle to get a real feel for how it can perform. We didn't get to take the car home that day, because of a setback with our insurance, but all was taken care of in as timely a manner as it could have. I also want to note that Rich, our initial contact with the dealership was not available when we arrived. Instead of waiting for him to be freed up, Howard took charge and got things rolling. I did speak with Rich later and he assisted in getting insurance hiccup ironed out. The point being, that -- to me -- the folks at Bill Kolb sales are true team players (and I believe the commission-less strategy plays a huge role there). A few sore points ———————— I felt that there should have been a bit more up-front disclosure about Costco member pricing. We initiated contact because of a Costco flyer touting that members get special “dealer pricing”. The truth is that this does not apply to used vehicles. I haven’t looked yet, but likely if I review the fine print, it probably does say that. Either way, between Costco and Bill Kolb, this was not clear to me going in. The good news is that I would probably still have ended up at this dealer based on what I read. Also, Howard assured us that we were getting the best price on the used vehicle and that given Costco’s formula for computing the member price, the cost would actually be greater. I applaud Marty for NOT trying to sell us other things with this car besides the extended warranty. However, I did feel that there was (deliberate or not) a lack of exploration of all our purchasing and payment options. We ended up getting the more pricy “$500 down” option with a not-so-nice APR of 4.x %. I still don’t know what the APR would have been with our planned downpayment but I blame myself for not being firm on this — it speaks to the psychology of buying a car, where you are hypnotized into wanting the product so badly that you let your guard down on the financing aspect. Overall -------- Overall, as far as the car buying experience goes, this one was great! Kudos! More
I would give them 10 stars if I could!! This is the second vehicle I've purchased from Bill Kolb Subaru. The first was a used 2010 Subaru Forester, purchased in 2012. When I went in to loo This is the second vehicle I've purchased from Bill Kolb Subaru. The first was a used 2010 Subaru Forester, purchased in 2012. When I went in to look at the car I'd already done a significant amount of research, as I've done prior to making any car purchase I've made in the past 30 years, to determine the price that I considered reasonable to pay for the particular car I was looking at. Bill Kolb Subaru was the first dealership I've ever dealt with in all my years of buying used vehicles that offered the price I was looking for at the beginning of the conversation, before I had to say a word! I nearly fell off my chair! As they advertise, they weren't interested in negotiating any further from that point, but that was no problem at all, since they were already at my predetermined "fair price". It was the most relaxed car buying experience I'd ever had. I walked out a very happy customer! Unfortunately, I recently lost that first Subaru to an unfortunate disaster not covered by my insurance plan, leaving me without my car and without the money to easily replace it. In a panic I began frantically contacting everyone I could think of to try to find some approach to putting myself and my family back on the road. I called and left a pathetic message for Bill Kolb III, but didn't really expect to get a response, since my message amounted to "Help! I need a car and can't afford to buy one!" Bill called me back the very next day and assured me that, as a I was already a customer, he was committed to helping me find a way to solve my problem. From that point on he proved himself dedicated to doing just that! When my husband and I came in to meet with him he came up with some great ways to approach the problem and then set us up with Sonny Ripps to go over the dealership's existing and anticipated inventory to find something that would work for us. Sonny was equally fantastic, going over every detail with us with great patience and helping us find truly the best deal possible. The final piece of the solution was provided by Paul in the finance office, who presented every possible repayment plan and then picked up the phone to negotiate a better interest rate with the bank on our behalf. By the time we were done we had managed to purchase a brand new 2014 Outback (the first new car I've ever purchased in my life!) for not much more than some used cars I'd been looking at elsewhere. And once we'd figured in the repayment terms and interest rate Paul had configured for us, our monthly payments turned out to be almost identical!! An incredible experience all the way around!! Working with Bill Kolb Subaru I really did feel like I was working with a group that cared and was trying to do whatever was possible to help me out of my miserable situation! They gave new meaning to the Subaru slogan - "Love - It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru"! Thank you Bill Kolb Subaru! More

What a relief to find Howard at Bill Kolb Jr. Subaru. Howard was very polite, actually listened to my needs, and answered all my questions thoroughly. Howard was never pushy, never tried to show me a car outside my price range, and was patient while I made my decision at my own pace. The buying process actually went faster and more smoothly than any of my prior experiences. It was essentially stress-free. Howard was a joy to work with and was extremely knowledgeable about the vehicle I purchased. I will definitely recommend this dealership and Howard to my friends, and come back the next time I need a car. More
