I purchased a 2008 M3 from these folks. My initial inquires via the Internet were responded to promptly and professionally. The staff was courteous and made the experience as painless as possible. These folks definitely cater to the enthusiast crowd when compared to the 'other' BMW dealer in town. Negotiations were smooth and overall I would rate the experience as one of the top three best car buying experiences I have had (have owned 20+ cars). Eight days after driving our 'new' 2002 BMW X5 off the dealer's lot, and with less than 100 miles driven, we found ourselves broken down on the side of the road on a rainy Sunday night. We had the vehicle towed as far as our insurance would take it, about 15 miles shy of the dealer. After phoning our client advisor, Ian, who was very sympathetic and more than a little dumb founded, we were put in touch with Ingrid at client services. She promptly arranged a tow to the dealer at their cost and kept us notified of the vehicle's status and mechanical diagnosis. The problem was a bad alternator probably caused by a leaky power steering cable. We are pretty certain the problem existed before we purchased it and whether it was an oversight or just bad luck, it is an expensive repair. We were quoted an initial retail repair cost of $1500, which BMW offered to split with us. Not a bad deal, but... This is, of course, every used car buyer's nightmare: almost immediate vehicle failure. And certainly BMW had no legal obligation to help or assist us at all, as we purchased the vehicle 'as-is' without any warranty. We expressed our gratitude at BMW's prompt willngness to assist us, but also reminded them that the reason we chose to buy this specific vehicle had as much to do with WHO was selling it, as with the discernible quality of the vehicle itself. Buying a used car from a dealer implies a higher level of reliability and we were certainly given numerous verbal assurances of the vehicle's soundness during the buying process. Though there were no written or legally binding guarantees, there existed the 'peace-of-mind' guarantee that is integral to the BMW reputation. They did not fail us. After I made my case, I suggested that we would feel better splitting the dealer's cost of the repair, rather than the retail cost. With almost no hesitation, they very graciously agreed, bringing our cost down to $423. We would like to thank everyone at BMW Portland for their time and effort, but especially Ingrid Jackson, Ian Killough, Yazen Albustany and Andrew Clark. I've never received better customer service anywhere, ever. More
I went into the dealership with a pretty good understanding of what I was looking for. David listened to what I thought i wanted and we proceeded to a group of cars he suggested. 2nd car 2011 c understanding of what I was looking for. The entire time he was quite informative and he followed up a couple of times after the deal closed to make sure everything was fine. I would recommend BMW Portland & David to anyone looking to buy a BMW or other used vehicle. More
