I brought my 2022 BMW in because the check engine light was on and the car had become hesitant to start when I pressed the brake. My service advisor was Clarence Williams. After a diagnostic evaluati light was on and the car had become hesitant to start when I pressed the brake. My service advisor was Clarence Williams. After a diagnostic evaluation, I was told I needed approximately $1,700 in repairs, which I authorized. What was most frustrating is that as the technician drove my car out of the service department after completing the repair, the exact same check engine light immediately came back on. The car was taken right back into the shop, where I was then told the problem was a failed battery. The battery was replaced at no charge. I appreciate that the dealership stood behind its work by replacing the battery at no cost. However, it’s difficult not to question whether the original $1,700 repair addressed the problem that brought me in. Had the battery been identified first, I would much rather have paid for a battery than authorized an expensive repair before discovering another issue was still present. I left feeling uncertain about the dealership’s diagnostic process. I hope the dealership reviews cases like mine so future customers can have greater confidence that the root cause of a problem is identified before significant repairs are recommended. KTurner More
