Writing this on behalf of my grandmother, Roberta, who purchased a used 2016 Subaru Forester at the beginning of March 2023. We have owned the car for 4 months and have had problems since two weeks after purchased a used 2016 Subaru Forester at the beginning of March 2023. We have owned the car for 4 months and have had problems since two weeks after we bought it. To start, the car almost instantly needed a major transmission repair of a valve body replacement. Thankfully it was just under 100,000 miles and the warranty was able to cover the repair, however, there are still many uncovered issues. The car was sold to us, without our knowledge, needing an oil change and the service department couldn't even tell us when the oil change was last done. Even after "detailing" performed while the sale was being finalized the car was dusty and clearly not tended to. We even found the paperwork in the glove box including the name and address of the previous owner. Although we were told the car had not been in any accidents it is clear the front bumper has been completely repainted when you compare the color to the paint on the rest of the car, raising suspicion that it has not been accident-free. I’ve included a picture of that below as well. We were supposed to have been given a CarFax report before we left and it still has yet to be given to us after mentioning it to representatives at least three times. Not a good look. In May the AC went out on the car. Of course, this is not a covered repair and a costly one at that. Initially the AC compressor clutch was going to be replaced as a remedy because the old clutch was absolutely disintegrated and causing a burning smell, starting issues, and electrical issues. I've included the picture of the clutch below in its incredibly dangerous condition. After the new clutch was put in we've come to find that the whole AC Compressor needs to be replaced and the new clutch is already being damaged from the failed system. At this point, especially with the CarFax being withheld, it is clear that Open Road Subaru sold us a car with way too many problems at way too high of a price. The only reason for two stars given is because the service department was great being able to provide a loaner and convenient flexibility with drop off and pick up when the car had transmission work. On top of the issues previously mentioned we’ve also had instances where the fuel gauge did not properly work after filling the tank as well as random appearances by the airbag light indicating the system isn’t working properly. This vehicle has been nothing but a headache and we are extremely worried about what other issues could arise after such a bad start to ownership. Don't expect Open Road Subaru to make it right. More

This was my sixth car buying experience so I've had my fair share of experiences at dealers in the tri-state area. My experience far exceeded previous experiences from luxury car brands in the area. We had such a great first time Subaru car buying experience that my wife is already thinking about having her next car be a Subaru too. 😅 Thanks again, Zaneta, Charlie, and John! More

This review is to Thank JOHNNY MARTE JR. at Open Road, Union NJ. We are loyal repeat Subaru car owners. We completed due diligence, with research, and submitted bids for a 2023 Forster Lim at Open Road, Union NJ. We are loyal repeat Subaru car owners. We completed due diligence, with research, and submitted bids for a 2023 Forster Limited to most Subaru dealerships in Bergen, Essex, and Union Counties NJ. Some dealers ignored our request for information, or required that we go directly to the dealership to negotiate. Some were not moving price of MSRP. One salesperson stood out as exemplary in our research. That is JOHNNY MARTE JR. at Open Road Subaru. JOHNNY MARTE JR. made many trips to his boss with different numbers we submitted. He worked very hard and did not blow us off when we came back with different payment options. Importantly, JOHNNY MARTE JR. presented with empathy, patience, low pressure, persistence, and truly made us feel like valued customers. I have been leasing cars since 1984. I'm an old dude. I noticed that with some of the dealers I encountered there is not the same level of engagement that I experienced when younger. They almost seem dismissive. That was not the case with JOHNNY MARTE JR. We thank JOHHNY MARTE JR. for his assistance and ask anyone looking for a Subaru to give him a call at the dealership 908 686-6160 (ext 7051). Open Road's management team are very fortunate to have him on their staff. More

We were able to find a vehicle online, check availability in their physical inventory, call them up, schedule an appointment, and come to test drive the vehicle. All on the same day. On a Saturday!!! They also had a selection of colors. so we could see what the cars look like in these colors in person as opposed to in catalog pictures. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Overall, an excellent experience! Also, while walking around the showroom I could not help noticing that the pricing was very competitive. If these yellow stickers can be trusted, then the difference between a "Was" and "Now" price was comparable if not on par with the pre-pandemic years. Albeit, I can't say for sure as I had not looked at Subarus before and would not have known what kind of discounting was "business-as-usual" for Subaru vehicles. More
