2nd time had oil change heat shield not reinstalled correctly. Fell off while driving. Had to go back to dealership to get it fixed. Had to have help to get it back to dealership correctly. Lack of communication is painful. I didn’t want to write this, I wanted someone to contact me after I left obviously frustrated. I will say the service team does very quality work and there’s a reason I bring my Golf to the dealership over an independent shop, knowing it’ll be more expensive. I had planned to get my summer wheels/tires put on, state inspection, oil change on my Golf R. Night before I book the appointment my car fights to start. Explain it and say idk if battery or what but it struggles to start. Also dropped our Jetta off for state inspection and oil change. I need to emphasize that my summer wheels with the tires on them were in my back seat, bag of bolts on the seat when I dropped it off. Jetta is in and out, quick, cheap, everyone was nice - my wife is happy and on her way. I go to pick up mine, they say yup new battery, we did the tires, and oil change here’s the keys. I walk out to my car and see my winter wheels. I run back in and go what happened? She says we rotated your tires? I pause while I process and imagine a mechanic driving my car onto the lift, full of summers - literally crammed in my Golf, and unironically rotating my Blizzaks in June. But what’s done is done, frustrating but not the end of the world. She apologizes and says she’ll talk to them. Then I go back out to my car and discover they didn’t do my state inspection either. I go back in being like you guys didn’t do the inspection either? Now, I can wrap my mind around not being able to do a state inspection on a freshly replaced battery - but please communicate that because 2/4 items were not completed and that’s frustrating and time consuming. I knew the battery was going to be expensive cuz dealership but I didn’t know I was also paying $200 on top of the battery for them to test the most consumable part under the hood with a volt meter and say “yup it’s the battery” - I wouldn’t have done that work there if I knew it would total me nearly $700 to replace a battery. To add insult to injury, yesterday I received an email from Gervais titled “ Last chance: Complimentary battery test + service deals.” With a $25 off coupon for Genuine VW Battery and Installation – Battery test and installation – Limited warranty included The time before last, I had my usual summer tires, oil change, state inspection appointment. Drop it off first thing, say it’ll be done around 2pm or something along those lines. 3pm I still haven’t heard anything so I call. Receptionist says she’s transferring me and puts me on hold. I was on hold for over an hour and 45 min - the hold music repeated so many times it stopped. I hang up, call back, it’s 4:45, place closes at 5, plead with the receptionist to not do that to me again. I do get to the service manager who says “Sorry, we’re working on it right now. Some stuff came up and we’re short staffed.” That’s totally fine, it was Monday before 4th of July, I understand, but please communicate that so I’m not left wondering where my car is which I needed by the evening. So here I am, still imagining someone driving a car full of 19” summers onto a lift then rotating my Blizzaks mid June, disappointed that doing basic work at the closest VW dealership is a frustrating experience, multiple times, all due to communication. The shop would be great if communication didn’t feel like getting a tooth pulled. I don’t want to rag on hard working mechanics doing quality work but the customer to technician communication pipeline isn’t working. More
