1 Star — Extremely Disappointing and a Waste of Time

had a very disappointing experience with Napleton Arlington Heights while attempting to sell my vehicle.
The dealership contacted me regarding my car and initially provided what appeared to be a fair estimate. I was specifically asked to provide the Toyota dealer’s inspection report, which I promptly sent to them. After reviewing the information, they asked me to bring the vehicle to their dealership so they could conduct their own inspection.
I made the trip and spent my time and effort doing so based on the understanding that the initial discussions and the information I had provided would be taken into consideration. Unfortunately, after completing their inspection, they came back with a significantly lower offer.
What is most frustrating is not simply that their final offer was lower. Dealerships are obviously entitled to adjust an offer after an inspection. The problem was the way this process was handled. After the discussions, the exchange of information, and their request that I bring the vehicle in, I felt that my time and effort had not been respected.
If the dealership already had concerns that could materially affect the value of the vehicle, those concerns should have been addressed before asking me to make the trip, especially after receiving the Toyota dealer’s inspection report.
This experience left me feeling that the initial estimate was not a realistic representation of what they were actually prepared to offer.
My advice to anyone considering selling a vehicle to this dealership: get the offer and all important valuation assumptions in writing before making the trip, and do not assume that the initial estimate will be honored after they get you to the dealership.
I value straightforward and transparent business dealings. Unfortunately, that is not what I experienced here, and I would not want another customer to waste their time and effort as I did.

Abdeltahman, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We understand how frustrating it can be to make the trip to the dealership expecting one valuation and then receive a different offer after an in-person inspection. We’re sorry that the process left you feeling that your time and effort were not respected. While vehicle appraisals can change once a vehicle is physically inspected and our team is able to evaluate its condition firsthand, we understand your concern regarding the expectations that were established during the initial communication and after you provided the Toyota inspection report. We take feedback regarding transparency and communication seriously, and we will be reviewing your experience with our team to better understand what happened and how we can improve the appraisal process. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and regret that we did not provide the straightforward experience you expected. We would like you to Please give us a call at 847-298-0900 EXT 19212 Thank you, Sharnae Leachman Customer Relations Manager Ed Napleton Auto Group Sleachman@napleton.com (847) 298-0900 EXT 19212

Thank you, Sharnae, for reaching out and for acknowledging my concerns. I appreciate your willingness to look into what happened and your effort to help resolve the situation.
I would like to clarify an important part of the communication that took place before I came to the dealership.
When Napleton initially contacted me about my 2019 Toyota RAV4, I explained that the vehicle had just been inspected by AutoNation Toyota and that they had offered me $14,670 after accounting for the reconditioning items identified in their inspection.
I specifically told Napleton:
“If you are going to quote me $16K, I can come and you inspect it the way you want. But if you found the report accurate, I won’t accept less than $16K.”
I attached the AutoNation Toyota inspection report and their offer so that Napleton had that information before I made the trip.
Napleton responded:
“We would still need you to come in to get an official offer! I do believe we can get you there!”
Based on that communication, I made the trip to the dealership and allowed Napleton to conduct its own inspection. Unfortunately, the offer I received after the inspection was substantially below what had been discussed.
I completely understand that a dealership may adjust an appraisal after physically inspecting a vehicle. My concern is that Napleton had already received the Toyota inspection report, knew the other dealer’s offer, knew that I was looking for approximately $16,000, and specifically indicated that they believed they could “get me there.” That created a reasonable expectation that it was worth my time to bring the vehicle in.
I also appreciate that you subsequently asked Amir to review the situation and reconsider the offer. I was happy to give Napleton another opportunity and therefore provided Amir with the same inspection report along with the $14,670 AutoNation Toyota offer.
Unfortunately, Amir did not provide a revised offer. Instead, he questioned whether AutoNation Toyota was actually offering me that amount and suggested that I should take it because it was “too good to be true.” I found that response disappointing because I was providing a genuine competing offer so that Napleton could reconsider its valuation, not asking Amir to simply accept another dealership’s valuation.
That said, I am still giving Napleton the opportunity to resolve this situation. I have not updated my review because I would prefer to see how this is ultimately resolved rather than make a final judgment based only on the initial experience.
I appreciate your efforts, Sharnae, and I am willing to hear a revised offer from Amir and give Napleton another opportunity to earn my business.
I hope we can resolve this positively.
