Ever hear of VIN Number switching?? I hadn't till I met these crooks!
I test drove a car and liked it. I am a 57 year old disabled woman, whose husband is home bound, so I went there by myself. Nothing was written down and given to me, except a computer print out of the car I drove and liked. It had a Vin number which ended in the year my oldest daughter was born, "1978". I told the salesman that I liked this car, liked all the extras, loved the color, "Desert Bronze", but could he see if he could get me one just like it with a navigation system at a reasonable price?? If not, I'd buy this one.
He said he'd call me, and he did. He told me he could not find one that color with a navigation system, but would sell me the one I drove and he quoted me a price. I agreed to purchase and went down the next morning with the agreed amount, plus a trade in.
I was met at the door with "Would you like to test drive your car again?" I thought this was a strange procedure. I answered, "No thank you, I've drove it all ready and I liked it, I don't need to drive it again."
It had turn signals in the side view mirrors, 4 heated seats, garage door opener in the rear view mirror, 17 inch wheels, etc..... It was a "Limited", and had "Limited" written on the trunk. I had taken four pictures of it when I test drove it, to show my husband when I returned home. I still had the pictures in my phone in my pocket.
I did ask for the vin number, so I could call my insurance company and have the car insured to drive it home! EXCITED!!
They had the Vin number already written down on a post it note, and laid it on the table in front of me. I had State Farm on the phone. I looked at the Vin, and immediately noticed it ended in the numerals "1111" not "1978" the year my daughter had been born! I told State Farm I'd call them back. I blurted out, "This is not the right vin number!" I got a unison "Really!?" from all the salesman hovered around this old lady, including the rude Manager, Angelo Giordimaina.
"Ohhh the car prepared out front is not the car you drove??? Go look at it." They all urged me to go out and check the car parked out front. Yes, it was the right color, desert bronze. It did NOT have turn signals in the side view mirrors, it had 15 inch wheels, NOT 17 inch wheels. It did NOT have heated seats at all. It did NOT have anything in the rear view mirror. It was NOT the limited that I had drove. I told them NO, I have pictures and a computer run off of the car I drove and this is not it. I pulled out my phone and showed them the pictures, which caused them to scramble! They still tried to persuade me that this was the car I agreed on, the salesman said he could "not remember showing me all the "perks" like turn signals, 17 inch wheels, garage door opener, etc".
Then all of a sudden Angelo Giordimaina, started lecturing me, one of his salesman chewed me out, Angelo Giordimaina threatened to fire his new salesperson for doing this, but did not believe he knew any better. BUT since I was "green" and "did not know the difference between a GLS, and a LIMITED", he'd "give me a deal", which did not match the price I was quoted.
What if, I had not noticed the Vin number difference? and had signed the papers, got into the car, and then realized it was not the car I wanted.
I suspect......... "Too bad old lady, you bought it, now we are all going to the bar after work to celebrate".
Go to Lafontane and get a family deal, not a Crook's deal.
