Beware of the White Bear Subaru service department. Last fall we had a very bad experience with them. Our transmission was acting up, so we took it in to check it out and were told that we needed to re Last fall we had a very bad experience with them. Our transmission was acting up, so we took it in to check it out and were told that we needed to replace it for a cost of over $9,000 to us. They told us they didn't know when it would no longer function but gave us tips as to what to watch for. Shortly after that we found out elsewhere that Subaru had extended the warranty on the transmission and were obliged to replace it for free. We went back into the dealership with our new knowledge and they agreed to fix it. They didn't replace the transmission entirely, which was what they told us had to be done, but instead simply replaced the transfer clutch. That was covered by the extended warranty. We are shocked that the service person we worked with would try us to get us to pay over $9,000 out of our pocket when they were obliged to fix or replace the transmission for free. And he was comfortable letting us drive around with a faulty transmission, knowing that it could break down at any time. On top of that, he charged us for the initial diagnosis. I appealed to the manager and got that money back. We reported this incident to Subaru headquarters and got no satisfaction. We have since sold the car and will never buy another.
