I had been looking for a used Volvo in and around Memphis, TN for about 2 months. As my efforts went fruitless, I began using an online car buying service through my insurance company, I submitted an Memphis, TN for about 2 months. As my efforts went fruitless, I began using an online car buying service through my insurance company, I submitted an inquiry about a S60. Jim Carpenter responded the same day via e-mail, promising a phone call to discuss the matter. Jim called and informed me that particular car had been sold (this was the 3rd time someone had beat me to the punch in the past month). Jim came off as a nice guy, but with the car already being sold, I wasn't really listening to anything else. He told me he's sells great cars, and can ship them nationwide, etc. In my mind I was thinking who would buy a used car, sight unseen, (italics) from a used car salesman? As Jim said said he'd keep out an eye for a car for me, I half-heartedly gave him my cell phone number and told him I'd appreciate it if he'd let me know if anything came up. Over the next couple of weeks, Jim, who most people would expect for him to have forgotten about me long ago, sent me a few text messages of pictures of cars in the price range. Surprised and impressed that he still had an eye out for me, I looked at the pictures and, well, none of them were the car. None of them were what I wanted to be my car. But at least Jim was out there looking. 3 weeks after my initial inquiry, Jim texted me and said there was a 1 owner trade-in of a 2004 S80, low mileage, immaculately maintained, that may happen in the next few days. When the car came in, he texted me pictures of the front, odometer, and interior. This was it. This was the car. I'd always driven 'hand me down cars,' I'd never actually bought a car for myself. Here it was, the car I wanted to be MY car. I called my dad, the car guy of the family, and he told me to get the CarFax as, for the price, it was probably too good to be true. Jim e-mailed the requested info and it still seemed too good to be true. Seeing it had only one owner and was serviced regularly, I convinced my dad to drive me to St. Louis to take a look at the car the next day. I told Jim we'd be up Friday, he promised the car would be there and the drive would be worth it. I'll spare the details about the drive, but we arrived in Manchester and found the dealership. After a brief wait (leaving at 6am, we arrived earlier than I told Jim - who broke off doing whatever he was doing and came back to the dealership to meet us), Jim met with me and showed me the car. A man was detailing it, and it wasn't quite ready, but there it was, not too good to be true at all. I went for lunch and came back ready for the test drive. As we headed out onto a highway looking road but oddly with a 45mph speed limit, Jim told me that the suspension bearings would need to be replaced, but that was the only issue the garage could find (as Jim said it was the guy's in the garage job to find problems). Nothing too big to worry about. By this time, I kind of trusted the guy about it. Unaware that Jim and my dad were discussing about the restaurant business as I was too busy enjoying how well the car drove, I decided it was time to buy. Jim directed me back to the dealership. He went inside and I did a final walk-through (Jim wasn't pushy about anything - he seemed confident in the product he was selling and was incredibly knowledgeable about the brand). I headed inside and we did the necessary paperwork (though the financing guy was a little pushy about the warranty he was selling, but that's his job I guess). I set off on my 4 hour ride home in my new car. Two days later, Jim sent me a picture of the inspection report. I breathed shallow as I couldn't make out a red box that was checked, just knowing that red boxes meant something needed fixing. I texted Jim back, he said that it was the shocks/struts column...and that the suspension bearings would need to be addressed...just like he told me during the test drive. I thought it was crazy Jim would suggest buying a car from him sight unseen at first. But I get it now. Drive four hours because he said it'd be worth it? You bet, because it was. Trust a used carsalesman? Yep, his name's Jim Carpenter. More
As a first-time car buyer, I was a little nervous about even looking for a new vehicle. I knew that I'd wanted a Volvo, but had a negative experience at another area dealer. I walked into West Co Volvo t even looking for a new vehicle. I knew that I'd wanted a Volvo, but had a negative experience at another area dealer. I walked into West Co Volvo to take a look at some of their vehicles. It was clean, bright, and they had a fair amount of inventory to peruse. I began speaking with Tim and immediately felt like I was chatting with an old friend. Being younger, it was nice having someone who I felt comfortable with and someone I could speak with candidly. Tim was not pushy, didn't come off as having an agenda, and was patient with me while I asked many questions. I looked at both new and pre-owned cars, and ultimately wound up purchasing a vehicle from Tim at West Co Volvo. Not only has Tim been incredibly responsive post-purchase, but he's been helping facilitate some extras for me. He even sent a hand-written Thank You note following my purchase...it was old-school and I loved it! I could not have had a better experience purchasing my first post-grad vehicle, and I have already recommended Suntrup West Co. Volvo (and Tim Edwards) to both family and friends. I assure you that if you speak with him, you'll be pleased with your experience. More

I found the dealership while searching for a used vehicle with only a general idea of what my desired vehicle. After finding a nearly new Nissan 370 z, I scheduled a test drive with Jim by phone. Jim was ext with only a general idea of what my desired vehicle. After finding a nearly new Nissan 370 z, I scheduled a test drive with Jim by phone. Jim was extremely welcoming, friendly, and helpful throughout the process and needless to say I was in the seat of my vehicle within three hours of entering the dealership. If you are looking for a salesman who is trustworthy and looking out for his customers, Jim is the man. I will also say the dealership is well taken care of and not once did I feel as if I were being pressured into the sale. More

Recently as I looked online, drove through car dealer parking lots and occasionally talked with sales persons, I considered several different car brands and drove a few cars. My wife and I are definitely fans of Volvos, and our experience with Tom Calkins just this past weekend was extremely good. He is very driven to sell cars, but he is kind, friendly, personable, and fun. I would certainly recommend to car buyers that they consider a Volvo and, if so, talk with Tom. More

It was an online inquiry for a used Lexus IS250 that connected me with Mr. Jim Carpenter, I live in Dallas, TX he in St. Louis. After submitting my online inquiry I received a call within ten minutes fr connected me with Mr. Jim Carpenter, I live in Dallas, TX he in St. Louis. After submitting my online inquiry I received a call within ten minutes from Jim and he was extremely friendly. We hashed out the details of the make and model of car I was looking for and I explained to Jim my doubts of being able to purchase a new vehicle at all. I at the time had a 2009 Toyota Carolla, that was extremely upside down plus had a negative carfax, and a 17.9 interest rate. I didn't think I would be able to get a new or used car at all but Jim took the time to explain negative equity, the option of leasing, and told me there is no reason for me not to have a new car. He suggested the Volvos60 premium package and advised I go to my closest Volvo Dealership and just give it a test drive. Needless to say I wound up being approved for the LexusIS250 but I loved the Volvo s60 so much, the premium package, the safety ratings everything was excellent. I never in a million years would of thought of purchasing a Volvo I didn't even think I could afford it- but courtesy of Mr. Carpenter and his sage advice I was able to get my new car. He is the epitome of quality customer service, friendly, candid, and no judgement placed like many dealerships do. Thanks Jim! More

I was looking for a Volvo XC70 with low miles. I found exactly what I was looking for online, but it was 500 miles away. When I called for information, Jim Carpenter took the time to answer all of my que exactly what I was looking for online, but it was 500 miles away. When I called for information, Jim Carpenter took the time to answer all of my questions. He told me about the history of the car and even went through the service records with me over the phone. After about the third call, Jim went out and personally inspected the car for me while I was on the phone. My faith in Jim was rewarded when the car arrived and was in perfect condition just as Jim had told me. Jim was excellent with communication during the transport and delivery process. Everything went just as he described. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Rob More
