I've been searching for a quality used car for my granddaughter who is graduating from high school. After visiting several dealerships on Manchester Road I decided to see what West County Volvo had t granddaughter who is graduating from high school. After visiting several dealerships on Manchester Road I decided to see what West County Volvo had to offer. Upon stopping I was quickly greeted by Jim Carpenter who is a very friendly person but who didn't waste any time determining my parameters for the vehicle I was searching for. Jim quickly narrowed the field down to 3 cars. There was no pressure to buy or make an immediate decision, just factual discussions about each of the possible choices. Coming back later with my wife, Jim took on several test drives and we quickly decided on a Mazda Tribute which was several thousand dollars over what we originally planned to spend but the very low mileage and the condition of the interior and exterior convinced us that this would be a good long term choice. Jim made the paperwork as pleasant as possible and we drove away with an almost new car. A good experience all the way around. P.S. MY son and I had previously bought 3 automobiles from West County Volvo and it was always a great experience. More
I purchased a certified pre-owned XC-60 Volvo, drove it home and found out it needed a new front passenger tire. I had to have both of them replaced due to tire wear but my big complaint is the quality of home and found out it needed a new front passenger tire. I seen the tire defect myself and had to have it replaced because the steel belting was showing on the side wall of the tire. I called and talked to Dan Suntrup about it but other than him asking me what he wanted me to do about it there was no customer service recovery done at all. This dealership clearly does not want to have returning customers, I was just a sale. I would never buy another car from West County Volvo. More
Early in the afternoon of Sunday February 23 I was unable to start my car, which was in my garage at home in Lebanon, IL. I called Volvo Roadside Service, who within the hour had a service person at my home to start my car, which was in my garage at home in Lebanon, IL. Once I got my car running I drove 45 miles to meet a friend in the parking lot of St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, MO, where I planned to leave my car while we attended a dinner event. I turned off my car while waiting there, but decided after a short time to restart the engine, just to be sure all was well and that the battery had indeed recharged. Much to my dismay the engine would not start. I was now a long way from home late on a Sunday afternoon and had no idea what to do. I decided to call Tom Calkins, who had sold me the car 4 years ago and who was always helpful with any issues or questions I had about my car. As I was explaining my plight to Tom, he asked me exactly where my car and I were located. When I told him that I was in the parking lot of St. Luke's Hospital, he said that, as fate would have it, he was inside the hospital visiting a patient, and that I should stay there, and he would find some way to help. About 5 minutes later a hospital security van pulled up in front of my car, and out hopped Tom Calkins and a security guard carrying a battery jump machine. Tom promptly opened the hood of my car, hooked up the cables, and jump started my car. His kindness did not stop there. He knew that I could not shut the car off and get it restarted and that I had to be gone for several hours before returning home, so he told me to hop in my car. He drove to where he parked his car, handed me his keys, and told me I should drive his car. He would take my car directly to the dealership, and we could swap cars the next day, and mine would be fixed and waiting for me then. That is exactly how the saga ended! Tom absolutely saved my day, and I will never forget it. Words cannot adequately express my gratitude to Tom Calkins. His actions were absolutely above and beyond the call of duty. He is definitely my knight in shining armor, and I have been telling the world about him ever since! More
I live in Peoria, IL and I travel to Suntrup West County Volvo each time I get a new Volvo. I am now driving my 8th Volvo from them. My salesman, Tom Calkins, makes it such a pleasant experience that I look forward to each new lease. Tom is so informative about the models and features, and he is so gracious and a super sweet guy. As long as he sells Volvos, I will be his client. I am currently driving a 2014 XC60. It's my new favorite ride!! I love the heated steering wheel. It's the best, especially with the brutal winter we are having this year. Oh, and the heated windshield.... no more iced up wipers!!! I'm already looking forward to my next lease!!! Talk about buyers remorse...I thought buying the Platinum Volvo XC90 meant that I would get all the bells and whistles that every other car has i.e. true 'hands free' phone use (Volvo puts in a dial Platinum Volvo XC90 meant that I would get all the bells and whistles that every other car has i.e. true 'hands free' phone use (Volvo puts in a dial pad to dial a phone number instead of a voice to dial like all the other cars) Something as simple as a horn honk to confirm I locked my doors, not on the Platinum XC90. I called my sales rep Tom after I did some searching on the internet that said it was a software upgrade, he tells me "no, it's not an option with that car" I explained to him that I found something on the internet that said it was a software upgrade, he told me he would look into it, that was 3 days ago and not a word from him. And he didn't tell me any of this until the sale was finalized. I have never felt take more advantage of. He keep me lost in typing numbers in his computer to try and get me to a payment I wanted, all roads led to me giving more money. I told him I received the A plan through my work, he told me his deal was better, I asked why and he said flat out the money I was going to get for my trade would not happen if I used my A plan, how is that right or fair? If I use my discount than West County will short me on my trade in? At the end of the sale Tom had the audacity to tell me to rate him with all 'outstanding's' on a review that I never received (he kept a blank form) so he could get more money for loaner vehicles. Really?!? I will never shop at a Suntrup again, nor will I recommend them to anyone? Especially with knowing that Tom had been there over 20 years (he couldn't stop telling me that) and that's the type of people Suntrup keeps on the payroll. More

Tom listened to the concerns I had with my current vehicle and worked with me to find the car that best suited my needs. Tom went over and above what I expected from a sales person and created a truly vehicle and worked with me to find the car that best suited my needs. After taking delivery there was a small mix up with my spare key and Tom went out of his way to deliver and trade the correct key with me (at my home). That was unexpected and showed me his level of concern for me even after the sale was complete. I looked at many cars prior to purchasing my Volvo C70, but have to say that I purchased because the sales person impressed me more than any others I encountered. I am happy with my car and my experience. More
