I bought a Sterling at Herb Gordon in 1987 and have been a customer ever since. And eventhough I did not buy my first Volvo at Herb Gordon, I did return to have my car serviced there. When I decided to buy another Volvo, it was an easy decision to stay with Herb Gordon. It was very easy to go on-line and look at the cars. I liked the idea that you can find out everything you need to know about the car before you even test drive it and compare the prices. The first time I met Howard, I wanted to just look at a S60, I found him to be very nice. He answered all my questions and I never felt pressured. I told him I would be back at a later time to have my car appraised. I returned a month later, with my husband for the appraisal. While we waited Howard told us we could look around and if there was a car we wanted to test drive, just let him know. We first test drove a S60, which I found much smaller than my 850. I then test drove a S80 and decided that was the car I wanted. I liked the fact that my husband and I were able to test drive the cars and make a decision on our own, without the pressure from a salesman. When I told them how much I wanted my monthly payments to be, they assured me it was doable and they would work with me. When it was too late to contact the bank, they allowed me to take the car home. When I returned the next day, all the paperwork was completed and ready for me to sign. Herb Gordon cleaned the car and gave be a full tank of gas and I was on my way. I was very pleased with this car buying experience and would recommend Herb Gordon to anyone interested in buying a volvo. I was even offered a second car wash and when I returned, I chatted with Howard and I could tell he was genuinely concern about how I was enjoying the car. I found Howard to be a real people person and not just a salesman trying to get me to buy a car. More
tho i wanted a c30, based on the volvo website, i didn't think i'd be able to purchase one (all options were 'a la carte' vs in packages, which drove up the price). instead i test drove the s40, and tho it think i'd be able to purchase one (all options were 'a la carte' vs in packages, which drove up the price). instead i test drove the s40, and tho it was nice, it wasn't really what i wanted. alan hannon, the sales manager, offered me a (red!) c30 at an excellent price and even added cruise control at no extra cost. he is affable and absolutely non-pushy. angel sharps, the loan/finance associate, obtained the car loan for me that was very competitive with the pre-approved loan i obtained thru my credit union. this meant that i did not have to take off from work to go back to my credit union with the paperwork. to obtain the best terms for me she was most willing to do multiple calculations. she was patient and good-humored. Our salesman, Mr. Mfon Mfon was one of the best customer service representatives I have ever dealt with. He asked us what we were looking for in a vehicle, didn't try to give us what we didn't need or want. He didn't stop looking for a vehicle to suit our needs and found exactly what we were looking for. Mr. Mfon was patient, humourous and friendly. He made us feel comfortable making an important decision, and worked all afternoon to get us what eventually sealed the deal. He is knowledgable about every aspect of the vehicles he sells. I was extremely impressed with his personable demeanor and extensive knowledge of the Volvo models that he sells. Herb Gordon has an excellent employee and superb representative of the dealership and the Volvo name with Mr. Mfon. I also want to applaud the management and finance staff at Herb Gordon. They worked with us to acheive a fair deal, and we were pleased with the final outcome. We were also extremely pleased when we came in to sign all of the paperwork. The finance representative had all of his paperwork in order, and was well versed in all of the legal and financial information that we had to cover. The whole process took less than an hour to wrap up, and Mr. Mfon was there to walk us to our new car and go over the bells and whistles with us so we were comfortable driving off the lot. I recieved follow-up calls from both the salesman and the dealership manager, both of which reinforced our feelings that we had made the absolute best decision purchasing our Volvo from Herb Gordon Volvo. After conducting large amounts of internet research to find a low mileage, late model XC 90, I completed an Edmunds.com on-line form for price quotes from multiple Volvo dealers. Although I received multiple e-mail responses from my request, based on the recommendation of my brother who had recently purchased a new vehicle from another Herb Gordon dealer, I contacted Howard Glickman of Herb Gordon Volvo. Howard listened to my requirements, and within minutes located a mint condition pre-owned XC 90 that was coming up for auction in PA. During the same phone conversation he quoted me an extremely fair price, and also provided a rough estimate for my trade in. Later that week Howard and his manager went to the auction and fought off the competition for the XC 90 and still honored the price he originally quoted me over the phone. When it came to appraise my trade-in, I was very impressed by the effort Alan expended trying to give me the best possible price. Two days later I took the whole family to Silver Spring to pick up the car. They had it ready and waiting outside the showroom doors. Prior to actual delivery I worked with Angel Sharpe, who also went the extra mile to find significantly lower financing sources than my usual bank. When it came to filling out the paperwork, Angel was extremely professional and efficient with the multitude of required forms and dealing with the added complexity of out-of-state buyers (VA). In less than two hours we had test driven the car, signed the paperwork, and received personal demonstrations of the many features of our XC 90. During the entire process I never felt like I was being deceived or manipulated in any way. Just the opposite was true - honest, friendly, and courteous - and always with my best interest in mind. This was by far my best car buying experience. I highly recommend Howard and the Herb Gordon Volvo team. I live in Northern Virginia and it is well worth the extra time and miles to drive to Silver Spring. More
I wanted to share the wonderful buying experience my husband and I had at Herb Gordon Volvo in Silver Spring Maryland. My husband was looking at the Volvo XC90 as a work vehicle and I had been coveting the C70 hard-top convertible for about 6 months. When we decided it was time to purchase, we did extensive online searches for vehicle inventory in our area. Our first stop was the Volvo dealer in Annapolis as it was the closest to our home. We were on the lot for over 40 minutes browsing both vehicle types with no acknowledgment from the sales staff. We left the dealership feeling that if this was the attention they gave to someone interested in purchasing a vehicle, what type of service would we receive if something went wrong? We went home and ventured online a bit further to Silver Spring. There I found a C70 in inventory. I emailed the dealership and was answered the next day explaining that the car was possibly sold but please come in to take a look at a few others. When we arrived we were immediately greeted by a friendly sales consultant, Jason Withrow. He was in the middle of another sale but gave us plenty of attention and apologized when he had to break. It was a Saturday afternoon and quite busy. I'm still not sure how he managed it but we were given both the C70 and XC90 to test drive and never felt slighted. We were very impressed with how the sales consultants and sales manager, Alan Hannon, worked as a team to assist us. We purchased the C70 that day and were so pleased with our experience that we returned the next week for the XC90. Every member of the staff at Herb Gordon was pleasant, friendly, and helpful. We have never had a more enjoyable buying experience. We would and have referred our family and friends to Herb Gordon and will definitely be customers for life. More

We had done all of our research and knew exactly what type of car we wanted and which options we wanted. We started calling local dealerships to find the lowest price. We shopped for our vehicle over the phone in this way because we were moving cross-country and needed to buy a second car when we returned to Maryland. Silver Spring Volvo was straight-forward and honest every step of the way! We worked directly with the manager, Allan, and his wonderful staff including Jason Withrow and their financing manager, Angel. Not only did Silver Spring Volvo match the lowest price we could find after calling about 7 other dealerships, but they were also willing to give us a loaner vehicle FREE of charge that we could use after moving back to Maryland until our new car was freshly delivered from the factory. Allan personally picked up my wife after we moved back to take her to the dealership and get the loaner vehicle. Jason spent about an hour going over the loaner agreement and features on the new car that was serving as our loaner. When we went to pick up OUR brand new car about four weeks later, they had it inside the showroom under a velvet blanket. They took pictures with us in front of our new purchase and then pulled off the blanket to unveil a beautifully detailed hard top convertible. Our keys were handed to us complete with a gift tag! Aside from the quality of the car (which should be the same anywhere), it was the willingness to work within our special situation and price range and the attention to detail when we picked up our car that truly sets Silver Spring apart.
