I scheduled an appointment a week in advance, even calling a day before to confirm (Monday 6/10). When I arrived (Tuesday 6/11), there was no record of my appointment. They alerted me that the Sales Adviser who I was supposed to meet was actually in Internet Sales and would be unable to take care of the appointment or test drive. I was given an alternate Sales Adviser and told to hang tight while they set everything up. It took an additional hour before the adviser could find a vehicle for us to take to the satellite lot, and even then he had to confirm that the vehicles were even available still, as there was no communication with the prior adviser. Once we arrived at the satellite lot, we found that both cars were both dirty and un-prepared, with one vehicle being advertised as a 2013 instead of the actual year of 2011, and the second vehicle being completely out of fuel. After an adequate test drive, and the immense need for a vehicle, I proceeded to move forward with a purchase of one of the two vehicles I saw. They were both manual, diesel Sportswagens, a relatively difficulty vehicle to find. When we returned to the facility to move forward with the sale I was informed of their $950 "dealer prep fee". The Sales Adviser and manager assured me this would cover almost everything that needed to be done including all preparation needed for the vehicle such as internal and external clean, a full tank of fuel, and overall service to make sure the vehicle was able to be driven off the lot in satisfactory condition. (I've outlined the vast number of problems with this "preparation" at the bottom of this review). I agreed on a price for the vehicle and was then handed off to the Finance Manager. Despite giving the Service Adviser all of the required information for my finances, and being told I was approved easily, I found out at the end of the paperwork that the Finance Manager had fraudulently reported my income to Volkswagen as $400 higher to, in his words, make things go faster and easier. I informed the Sales Adviser that I would return Thursday 6/13 to pick up the vehicle and deliver the down payment. Fast forward to our scheduled 10:00 am time on Thursday, and their once again not ready for my arrival. I ended up waiting another 90 minutes until I was able to even give the down payment, and then another 20 minutes after that until I could pick up the vehicle. I was told it may "drive a little rough" as they had to replace a fuel filter last minute. That was a DRASTIC understatement, not to mention the condition of the car (I've detailed that near the bottom of this review) On my drive home, the car shut down COMPLETELY twice (less than 35 minutes in to driving). I promptly brought the car to the nearest VW dealer (Highland Park) to get a second opinion. It was here that the vehicle completely died. It would only attempt to turn over, and never start. The Service Adviser in Highland Park let me know that the vehicle was most likely filled improperly by VW of Downtown Chicago with the wrong fuel (it's a diesel vehicle, and Highland Park let us know that VW of Downtown Chicago had filled it with 1/4 tank of unleaded fuel instead), completely ruining the fuel system. The vehicle was then towed back to Chicago where I was given the run around for a full week while repairs were carried out. No rental or loaner vehicle offered, no explanation for the mistake they made, nor paperwork provided for the work they completed. At the end of the week long repair, I was told that I had to find a way to pick up the vehicle myself back from Chicago and that they would not cover the tow back to Highland Park (this despite the fact that the vehicle breaking down in under an hour was shown to be the fault of the Downtown Chicago service department). After multiple calls back and forth, and multiple requests to talk to someone about the situation, I finally received the vehicle on Thursday 6/20, dirty, with 1/8 a tank of diesel fuel, and smelling of sewer water. Despite multiple requests for paperwork regarding the vehicles repairs and the service completed, I have been given the run-around from all involved parties as to why they can't or haven't provided any service paperwork; as of right now I have no proof as to what was actually done or not done to my vehicle. Purchasing the vehicle from them was difficult enough, but what really set me off was the nearly one-thousand dollars I spent for a clean, well-serviced vehicle, and the disappointment I was delivered instead. The number of things that were not completed on my vehicle for the $950 prep fee is simply unacceptable. I've documented each of the items that the sales adviser and sales manager told me would be completed and were not, including: -interior vacuum and clean (car was completely dirty and smelled of standing water, and still does) -external clean, buff and polish (paint marks and hand prints are all over the vehicle, both of which I was able to remove with mild buffing compound and a rag, showing complete lack of effort to remove prior) -a full tank of fuel (car was sold with less than 1/4 tank, car was serviced and delivered with 1/8 tank of fuel) -routine maintenance such as tire sensors and wiper blades (tire sensors were not repaired until the second service, wiper blades were completely worn down to the handle only, resulting in the wipers scratching both rear and front windshields, as corroborated by a glass repair company). On top of all this, there was also missing hardware and improper installation during the follow-up service (the splash shield became completely detached while driving because a service technician replaced none of the fasteners upon re-installation. I was forced to purchase the needed parts and have the shield installed by a nearby body shop) I have used a Highland Park body shop as well as Volkswagen of Highland Park to corroborate these needed services and repairs. This entire process has been utterly disappointing to say the least, and I will continue to dissuade others from purchasing or servicing their vehicles at VW of Downtown Chicago, both online and in person. Upon arriving i was directed to Peter whom was my sales guy. Nothing but great things to say. Very laid back not pushy. Overall nice guy. So we went out for a test drive i liked the vehicle. I agreed to buy but i did notice discoloration on passenger leather head rest. Some scrapes in the paint. Rich cane outside with me and agreed to fix the head rest. We moved forward with the sale. It was late so Peter told me that once i brought my car back in for repair they would detail my truck inside snd out. Also i mentioned my gas being low. So i made the appointment. I came in rhe next Monday. Once i got home with the vehicle the very next day i looked my vehicle over and noticed there was a repair done to the drivers side fender in the back and a bad paint job. Also a long scrape along drivers door panel. I mentioned to Rich Maseli Sales Manager about how i was not satisfied with the scrapes he did offer repair to scrapes on the passenger door. But refused to repair the other damages. I was told they were gonna detail my car and the car was brought back out with dirt still on inside panels and seats. Carpet was not vacuumed. I could not believe the type of rushed service i was receiving. I asked Rich Marseli to make it right. He told me he would not repair those things i had point out and it would cost me $450. He got frustrated then walked inside and never returned. So to answer any consumer question about recommendations. Absolutely No i would never tell anyone to buy from this Dealership if thats how you handle a customer after they signed snd paid. I felt disrespected as a woman and took advantage of. More

I went to VW for a standard maintenance - oil change, tire rotation, etc. The man helping (Samir) me said my total would come to $389.... I asked why. He said, we are going to flush the brake fluid in addition to oil change and tire rotation. Interesting. I don’t remember signing up for that. Samir then said, “oh it’s not part of the standard maintenance. It’s extra.” Interesting, again. That immediately put me in a bad mood. To assume I wanted/needed that done to my car is ridiculous. I am new to the VW world - coming from Toyota. Never once did Toyota assume I needed extra maintenance prior to looking at my car. Unimpressed with Samir and the VW team. More

nice but expensive This was not a happy experience. While it came out ok it took too much effort on my part to have it come out reasonably well. Car dead. Also in for This was not a happy experience. While it came out ok it took too much effort on my part to have it come out reasonably well. Car dead. Also in for 40K service. The 40K is expensive but ok. Was told I would have to pay $319 for a new battery if that is what I needed despite the fact I said I had an extended warranty which the agent took. If I needed an alt4ernator that might be covered minus any deductible I might have despite the fact that my paperwork said on the cover no deductible. I had to read the papers and find out a battery was covered then tell your man about it. The insurance paid for it. Then he suggested transmission service for $424. I declined but wow. This is on top of paying $1341 a couple of weeks ago to fix a leak in a 3 year old car! And what is this $35.95 "shop charge" for? More
