Buyer Beware! I bought a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was fraudulently mis-represented as I was lied to about the condition of the vehicle. The first time I got I bought a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was fraudulently mis-represented as I was lied to about the condition of the vehicle. The first time I got the Jeep up to 70 mph the steering wheel should shake violently. It was so bad it was hard to hold the steering wheel. It turns out the Jeep had a collapsed left front shock, the bushings in the left upper control arm were, and although the right upper control arm was replaced by Van Horn it was a defective part missing some reinforcements. When it was removed the right arm was determined to be bent. All these repairs were required even though the suspension was signed off on the window sticker as "legal". The next issue was with the cooling system. To repair it the coolant had to be drained. The coolant was brown and burnt. This would be expected with the mileage BUT the Carfax supplied to me at the time of sale (which the salesman Ivan made me sign) says that Van Horn flushed the cooling system prior to sale. There is no way the coolant could be that bad in 3000 miles. Had I not had a problem with the cooling system I would have never flushed the system of the bad coolant thinking it had just been done. This could have caused damage to many major components. In all the repairs required in the first month of ownership amounted to about $2500. I understand that the Jeep has high mileage and I was prepared for it to need some repairs, but I feel these are unacceptable because Van Horn's documentation led me to believe these items had been addressed. I don't believe it was done maliciously, just that the staff, especially in the service department, is incompetent. I was in touch with the VP, Tin Goeckerman (I guess he doesn't trust his sales manager Brandon Simmons to resolve customer complaints) and he promised to make things right. He did reimburse me $270 for the front shocks (parts only, no labor) and promised to reimburse me for the control arms (again parts only) but it's been a month and I haven't seen a check only. Tim has also quit responding to me after I brought the coolant issue to his attention. What Van Horn did is nothing short of fraud, and they've completely failed to take care of me, the customer after the sale. Please learn from the mistakes of others and steer clear of Van Horn dealerships. More
