I went to the dealership to look at an advertised 2019 440i. The Carfax and multiple conversations with the salesperson stated that the vehicle had not been in any accidents. I ended up purchasing the 440i. The Carfax and multiple conversations with the salesperson stated that the vehicle had not been in any accidents. I ended up purchasing the vehicle, advising the salesperson that I would be taking to my own mechanic and that, consistent with their 5 day/200 mile return policy, if any significant problems were found, that I would be returning the vehicle. Upon my mechanic's inspection of the vehicle, he found that the entire right side and rear bumper of the vehicle had been in a serious accident, both of which were repaired poorly. I brought this to the attention of my salesperson who, with no questions asked, agreed that I could return the car. He provided no explanation as to why he stated that the car was accident free after it reportedly having been "fully inspected" by the dealerships mechanics, when my mechanic found evidence of the extensive damage. Upon returning the car, I was told that their process involved my having to wait up to 4 weeks for the monies from the check I wrote them to be returned to my account. after a discussion with the finance person there, it was mutually agreed that I should cancel the check I issued as part of my payment for the car, if it had not yet been deposited, which I did. A few days later, I got a call from a representative from the dealership asking about the cancelled check. I explained the situation and all seemed to have been resolved. However, within the next week, I received another call from a collection agency, accusing me of bad faith in the transaction, and demanding that I pay them for the monies for the cancelled check. I called the dealership and the collection agency, and it appears that all has been taken care of. I feel that the dealership knew, or should have known, about the vehicle's having been in a major accident, and that this information was withheld. No apology was ever offered. In addition, the terms of their 5-day return policy (meaning that it would take 4 weeks to get a refund for monies paid) was also not made clear. I reached out to their parent company, AutoNation, to advise them of these issues, with their response essentially being, "we have contacted the dealership, and they said that they have dealt with the situation and resolved it." Again, there was no apology or accountability. More
