I went to that showroom on Wednesday (9/8/2021) and enquired about RAV4 XLE with the sales representative who is called Amari Richardson, he told me about the price (MSRP) and the added value ($5000) o enquired about RAV4 XLE with the sales representative who is called Amari Richardson, he told me about the price (MSRP) and the added value ($5000) on top of the MSRP (which I found too high) but they told me the reason behind that as because of the supply-demand in the present scenario (which I said I understand) but still, I negotiated from my part, that is when Amari brought in Veronica Varela (his Boss) and we all negotiated the price and we finally ended up agreeing for RAV4 XLE premium because I liked the features of it and they gave me the spec sheet for the same XLE premium. In that spec sheet, there was no mentioning of the JBL sound system package and weather grade package, so I asked Amari about that features and he gave me verbal confirmation saying that for sure those packages will be there in the incoming premium model, and I asked him to give it to me in writing with his signature since it is not mentioned in the sheet, and he wrote those features in the sheet and signed it and gave it to me. They rushed me to sign up for the vehicle insurance immediately because they told me the vehicle will be here tomorrow and you need to take it immediately because we cannot hold it for a day in our lot. I said fine, signed the deal, and made a down payment for $2000. I came home and the next day I did not get a message or call from the dealers. So, I called them, in the morning neither Veronica nor Amari responded to me and in the afternoon, Amari responded to me saying that vehicle won’t arrive till Monday next week. Then I called them, again the next day to ask if there is any update on the vehicle arrival status. Most of the time they did not pick up the call, and once Veronica picked up the call. I asked her about the status and to confirm the additional packages’ presence in the car, she told me she will let me know before she leaves from work. But she did not call me or sent me any sort of update, I waited till 9 PM for her call. On Friday morning I called her, she did not pick up, and I called her from a different phone number, she picked up and said, DO NOT CALL ME EVERY HOUR I AM WITH A CUSTOMER, I said I have never called you every hour, and I would not have called you even now if I get a proper response or any update from your end and I am also your customer but she didn’t even listen to me what I was saying and I said didn’t like that fact that how you are treating me after the purchase (because I felt the changeover in their treatment after the purchase.) She said you purchased with Amari, call him, do not call me or he will call you once the vehicle arrives. In the evening I got a message from Veronica saying, the vehicle is here when can you come, I said 6:30 PM. I went there with three of my friends and Amari showed me the vehicle and I checked it, I couldn’t find the JBL audio system, heated seat, and heated steering wheel as Amari promised and signed. I asked him, for that he said I thought it will come with that but the price which we have agreed for that does not include these feature if you want we can install with additional cost. I asked him you promised and signed in the sheet that it will come with those features, he said no it won't this is how you have to take it. Next, he brought Veronica to the vehicle, she was super rude from the moment she walked in, she didn’t listen to me at all, saying you purchased with me, did I tell you anything about the features, Amari is a new employee he doesn’t know about this (i told her I signed the deal with Amari as you said yesterday, but she didn't even want to listen what I say), whatever in the sheets only will be there in the vehicle and I asked about signed written statement in the sheet she ignored my statements and asked my friends to not talk to her very rudely saying I will only talk to the seller. I told her, they have the authority to talk on behalf of me, she said I won’t talk to them (where I found racist behavior from her toward me and my friends). But when I talk she was saying you can argue all day like this you want the car or not, I was not arguing I was trying to state the facts to her, she didn’t even listen to me. I asked her, can she reduce the price for missing features she said she cannot, I asked her to go ahead with cancel the deal because I do not want to purchase the vehicle from where I am disrespected. She went inside without even addressing me further, and then Amari came back to us and asked for the details to refund the down payment. Till then no one even remotely said mistake is on their side or even sorry. I felt bad, so humiliated in front of my friends and because of me, my friends have been treated very badly by her. While leaving I tried to share my experience with the head sales manager, I narrated the whole sequence of things that happened, for that he said sorry, I will let her know about what you said and he showed us the way out as quickly as possible. This whole process was mentally exhaustive and mentally stressed me. At their showroom not at a single point in time I felt comfortable or felt welcomed or even I doubt whether they thought benefits and good for their customer (or this racial treatment is only for Indians, I am not sure about that). I told myself that, I will never walk into that showroom ever again, who didn’t keep their customer as a priority irrespective of their ethnicity and color of their skin. I would tell my friends and family not to visit that showroom if they ask my opinion. I thought of buying this vehicle for my 3rd wedding anniversary, but alas, all time and effort went for nothing but humiliation and disrespect. More
